Court orders Christian child into government education
    rmowery
    by rmowery  8-29-2009
This is just plain wrong. Regardless of the religion. The court has overstepped it's bounds. If the girl was in some kid of harms way that would be a different story, but it sounds like she already excels. Let the courts worry about the kids who are being abused, starved and otherwise in danger and stop worrying about what religion they are being raised under. The child will have the choice to change when they leave home should they chose, or to explore other religions, etc. Personally, if I were the parent I would tell the judge where to stick the decision, and then proceed to move out of that state. I do hope the appeal works for the family, otherwise this sets a very bad precedent.

Federal Web sites knocked out by cyber attack
    rmowery
    by rmowery  7-9-2009
The feds need to admit that this is a devastating problem for them and they do not have the internal skills, nor do the beltway bandits and most other contractors. They need to go out and get the true professional white hats and solid cyber security firms to help deal with this head-on. To compete with the people who have these skills the US Government needs to hire the best of the best (much like they have top gun schools). We have lots of military hardware and military might, but we severly lack the skills the enemy of the future - that of the cyber realm.

Iran ex-monarch's son urges Israel to back rioters
    rmowery
    by rmowery  6-23-2009
Some sound advice, as long as Israel is invited by the groups trying to overthrow the current dictatorship in Iran. Israel also needs to get in and get back out, otherwise trouble would arise. I really feel for the people of Iran. Good people being surpressed, controlled, and even killed by an Evil Government. The government wants to speak for the people, the people want to speak for themselves.

MS Windows didn't become popular and well spread to so many without reason. The more control any one company or any government has over the core OS, the more likely it will have back doors and be prone to attacks. Whether you want to fend off a government or hackers, Windows is not the best choice, harden Linux and hardened Mac's are not better, not fullproof, but atleast the keys have not been left in the visor.

Federal Authority Over the Internet? The Cybersecurity Act of 2009
    rmowery
    by rmowery  4-14-2009    1
WHOOOA! This has to be protested big time. If this is permitted to happen we are all royally screwed, since the Internet is the Mass Communications structure of this era. The government used to be able to block radio &TV (probably still can and would) but right now it is not possible to close down the loop and voice of the Internet so easily. Unless this happens and we cannot let this happen. EFF is right, this is very dangerous. Hopefully people start organizing now and figuring ways to setup P2P and Mesh systems that can perhaps bypass the normal Internet and circumvent any blocks the government (any government) that is put into place.

Island DIY: Kauai residents don't wait for state to repair road
    rmowery
    by rmowery  4-9-2009
This is a perfect example of how local communities can get things done without wasting money. The only reason gov't could not have done it so fast is because of archiac laws and processes that are in place that allowing contracting companies to take advantage of any $$ being put out for items like this and it is even worse a Federal level. One can't blame government employees since many want things to get done faster, better, and at a lower cost, but lobbyists, congress, and others get in the way and force them to spend our taxes dollars with specific contractors, etc. This example here shows that many have been milking the government (local, state, fed) out of $ for years and continue to do so with projects that can be done in days or weeks, instead of months or years. It is our tax dollars being wasted and it is time that we start demanding faster and less expensive delivery cycles at all levels of government and letting government managers get the best labor and the cheapest

Financial industry paid millions to Obama aide
    rmowery
    by rmowery  4-5-2009    1
While the article seems to take a stab at the Obama administraton, I am taking a stab at all these people in the Wall Street financial industry. All of these finance guys are involved in the largest ponzi and control scheme in the history of modern society. Having heard Douglas Rushkoff speak at Web2Expo it all makes much more sense on how big government and corps try to control society. Currency is simply one instrument in the big ponzi scheme. I just ordered Rushkoff's book "Life, Inc" which unravels this whole mess and offers some ways that we are normal citizens can win back control.

Admiral says war veterans will suffer for years

    by rmowery  4-5-2009
The government better ante up on this and insure they take care of our Vets. This prediction from the Adm is nothing different from what our Vets faced in Vietnam. In both cases there was no reason to send our troops into harms way and it sounds like again our government is not going to help those who were sent there to fight. This is another example of the absurdity of how those in top power of the government use our military and just toss aside those who have erved their country. We all need to help these folks returning home.

Our Health, and the Health of Insurers
    rmowery
    by rmowery  3-30-2009
Everyone should have health care and I agree with these folks that if insurance companies can't do it, then let them close down. I however find it hard to believe that they can't compete with Government, since government usually has much overhead in implementing an maintaining. The way this will be lousy is if they increase our taxes to cover the losses government incurs, in which case we need to devise a different system. No matter the solution, the case is everyone needs healthcare.

I disagree - the gov't can always fabricate and print more money any time it wants/needs to and if that doesn't work, then they just tax the people more. Heck - soon we will be paying 85% of our work efforts in taxes.

The Bernanke and Paulson plan however will allow all their buddies to still stay rich. It really should come down to what is right for the American people, not what is right for a select few.
