If I were in their position I too would be outraged. Half of the Doctors I have talked too are not even recommending for their patients and certainly our pediatricians are saying not to get the H1N1 for our kids, which we had not planned to do anyway. If I was these doctors and nurses I would just not get it as the state is just asking for a huge shortage of nurses and docs by doing this. Society needs the nurses and docs, they don't necessarily need to stay at these jobs.

I am surprised no one has written a site or app to allow people to plan all this out and for those looking for hikers to work to post their exchange, etc. Seems like it would be a nice little business, of course one would need to plan and schedule all this out before they hit the trail.

Students Outsource Homework
rmowery
by rmowery  9-5-2009
I don't think this is what Timothy Ferris had in mind with his 4-Hour Work Week concept. Kids need to learn - outsourcing homework is not a good thing - the kids in other countries are already much smarter because they work hard at studies. If students want to outsource something, they should be outsourcing getting tutors and academic coaches from overseas to help them study more, not having the work done for them.

Court orders Christian child into government education
rmowery
by rmowery  8-29-2009
This is just plain wrong. Regardless of the religion. The court has overstepped it's bounds. If the girl was in some kid of harms way that would be a different story, but it sounds like she already excels. Let the courts worry about the kids who are being abused, starved and otherwise in danger and stop worrying about what religion they are being raised under. The child will have the choice to change when they leave home should they chose, or to explore other religions, etc. Personally, if I were the parent I would tell the judge where to stick the decision, and then proceed to move out of that state. I do hope the appeal works for the family, otherwise this sets a very bad precedent.

eal US unemployment rate at 16 pct: Fed official

by rmowery  8-28-2009
I still don't understand how the gov't (regardless of administration or party in place) can not include the group of those not working full-time or who have run out of unemployment. There are people out there living in tents and kids going hungry or without proper health care. It just amazes me just how much disregard there is at the top level for the working people of this country.

Attorney: FBI trained NJ blogger to incite others
rmowery
by rmowery  8-19-2009    1
So if this turns out to be true, then there are 2 crazy things happening with the FBI actually spying on US people (right wingers) and also using the blogsphere via a hired gun, to incite riots, responsive postings, etc. IF it is true and FBI is doing that, you have to woder what other 3 letter agencies are doing to shape people's opinions via New Media and psychological mechanisms. Hmmm... of course sales and marketing does that all the time in the real world, right ;-)

School brass facing prison time for luncheon prayer

I would be just as defiant if anyone tried to tell me that I couldn't pray, meditate, etc. when and where I chose. I agree if it was forced upon others then it would be wrong, but if one chooses to publicly pray, then so be it. Besides wasting tax payer money, doesn't the judge and others have any real cases to try. This is just plain waste of time and resource.

As a CIA spy, I saw in Iran what the West cannot ignore
rmowery
by rmowery  8-7-2009
While the current Iranian president and his followers need to be removed and the people given freedom, I don't think the US making a move on its own can or should happen. First we are already stretched too thin on the military side of things. Economically we cannot afford to this. Politically, it has to be a total buy in for other major players (this probably won't happen). The current president is a sociopath and I feel terrible for those Iranians that have attempted to stand up for their freedom and for those that lost their lives doing so. The guy and his followers are nuts and dangerous to their own people and to the world.

What are two Russian subs doing off the US coast?
rmowery
by rmowery  8-7-2009    3
Maybe they are going to offer rides on the subs for a small fee. Hopefully it will be cheaper than the $25 million to go to the space station. I suppose anyone wanting to take a ride will have to boat out 200 miles to their position, since it does not sound like they can drive in to pick ya up. Suppose it is a good way to raise some funding during economic crisis, just offer sub rides. Anyone have a boat and want to go out? ;-)
