POPS5GB Free as a network drive I see Kevin Tofel, one of my favorite tech bloggers, has posted about AOL's XDrive online storage service. Good stuff, and yes, you can set it up as a mapped drive on Windows systems. Should work excellently with the Eee PC!

POPSIE8 in private beta It'll be interesting to see what Microsoft comes up with to compete with Firefox in this generation of the browser. Of course this time around we have Apple's Safari and the Opera browser to compare with too. I'm sure IE8 doesn't look very different, rather, it'll be the feature set that will need to be spiffed up, similar to Firefox 3...

POPSOneCare for Server This is a great development in the OneCare service. Now if they can tie this into the Windows Home Server and tack on an online WHS backup service - that'd be great.

POPSIt's just business people No matter how much you love/hate Microsoft (or Apple, Google, Oracle, Sun, etc...) it's just business. Our favorite tools, apps, 'puters, phones, services - you name it. It's somebody's bread & butter to buy or sell. Whether we like it or not. Obviously there are a lot of unhappy current and former Microsoft customers using Flickr. ;-)

POPSJobs has nice words for Gates In addition to praising Gates contributions to the industry & society, he comments on Amazon's Kindle. He's right that it'll fail, but wrong on the reason. People do read - and like to! The issue is that digital readers don't meet the expectation of the public in cost and usability.

POPSInternet Explorer Confirmed (IE8) While this comes as a surprise to nobody, I just want to challenge Microsoft to build a browser that I want to switch *back* to. IE7 was not it, and I know they can do it.

POPSMicrosoft Partners Announce New Phones & Devices I was able to learn about a number of these technologies at Windows Connections earlier this spring, but it's nice to see the products hitting the market at last. Should provide many more options to individuals & businesses looking for solutions.

POPSMicrosoft May Acquire Yahoo for $50 Billion If this rumor is true, and the deal actually goes through - the results will be quite impressive. Microsoft and Yahoo have partnered many times in the past and this would actually be a really good pairing to challenge Google.

POPSMicrosoft Virtualization Products Delayed Unfortunate that MS Virtualization releases will be delayed, but the scope of the products are such that they require a little more time. As I've been watching the development of the "Vista Wave" of products, one common theme of consistency, integration, and quality keeps coming to the surface. This will be true of the virtualization products as well.

POPSNext-Generation Desktop Applications Linked To Web Wish this would have been a webcast of some sort - very interesting to me as a technology architect and integrator. This type of extension of desktop apps is what is necessary in the first move to a full web-centric workplace.

POPSMicrosoft VoIP Server - Public Beta This will change everything - not because it's VoIP and cool, but because Microsoft will drive it into nearly every small, medium, and large size company. Large enterprise organizations will also see the cost/performance value. This changes the VoIP integration scene for all MS shops.

POPSMicrosoft does video deal with AP Interesting development - this is a pretty big deal for both the AP and Microsoft. Appearently the system is currently in trial and may bring value to the 7,000 media outlets that belong to the AP.
