    Me Want!

I have easily half-a-dozen spare SATA HDDs that I've pulled from old systems over the years. This is absolutely the neatest thing ever. But $50 for an enclosure, no matter how cool the fun factor is, doesn't work for me. I'll have to keep my eyes out for a better deal.

    Technology in Classrooms?

Actually, this doesn't surprise me one bit. There are no computers in classrooms in my building. My lab it outdated by a solid ten years. I have two mobile carts totaling less than 30 computers for student use . And my teachers are illiterate and unwilling to learn technology standards for use in their classrooms. Face it, K-12 technology still has a long way to go.

Interesting. So if we go off what we know, then people who are buying the $200 Linux gPCs are likely individuals who already own multiple computers and are looking for either early adoption and/or a second/third/what-have-you system to play with or use for their kids. That's kind of sad, as it's further proof that Linux is struggling to cross the barrier from being a Geek System to something for mainstream uesrs.

    Woz It Really?

In my daily checkup on all that is Apple (scary thought, ain't it?) I stumbled across this post. If only my office was that organized. Too funny. In the 40 years or so of computers we haven't really progressed much have we? I swear, sans pizza boxes that could almost be my office.

Of pixie boots, school districts, and technology

So I've been spending my afternoon researching what it's going to take to pull up a F8 server to essentially run what's known as a PXE boot for me - which I'm hoping is going to allow me to run ancient iMacs in my classrooms by the end of the school year. We'll have to see how that all works out, in the meantime, Baker suggested I check out this K12LTSP stuff, which in turn led me to an article dictating the necessary evils of working for a school district. Seems like techs across the board feel the same way, it was an interesting read. Too bad it didn't actually help me get my server up and running.
