POPSYep again! So true...so very damn true! You wonder why our military is stretched too thin...why we need Asia and the Middle East to bail out our banks...why we haven't embraced alternatives to oil like Asia and Europe have...why we haven't caught Bin Laden... Maybe it's because we keep electing people that seem cool to hang out with but aren't capable of leading the world's most powerful nation. How about George Bush and Sarah Palin start a tv show called "politicians that seem fun to hang out with" and we start electing more boring but gifted people as President.

POPSUS war on the Future: From Alvin Toffler to Sarah Palin This is a must read commentary by Adam Greenfield. "What you get when you swallow too much change too quickly isn’t a mass outbreak of twitching, hebephrenic breakdown, nor some neo-Amish wave of technological renunciation. You wanna know what it looks like? A hockey mom and former beauty queen with an upswept ‘do and a pregnant daughter in high school. Sarah Palin is future shock personified."

POPSWorking hard to be genius! "These are stories about people who were given a special opportunity to work really hard and seized it, and who happened to come of age at a time when that extraordinary effort was rewarded by the rest of society." Very interesting. there is a tendency to prefer stories of sudden success, hidden fate, and so on Vs. the ones that mention the hard work it takes to be a genius. i think it is related to responsibility. whereas in the first it seems like it is 'out of my control' so i, the human involved, just have to accept and agree to the circumstances. The latter stresses the point that one parameter that is involved has a lot to do with what one is doing and how much he is willing to prioritize his resources toward a direction...

POPSPalin's Alternate Universe “Say it ain’t so, Joe! There you go pointing backwards again ... Now, doggone it, let’s look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I’m glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and God bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right? Aw-shucks, darn-right, I’m-just-a-hockey-mom governor of Alaska mouthing something completely devoid of meaning? If Governor Palin didn’t like a question, or didn’t know the answer, she responded as though some other question had been asked. She made no bones about this, saying early in the debate: “I may not answer the questions the way that either the moderator or you want to hear.”

POPSHomophobia Rears it's ugly head in Amherst This is a horrible example of what has been happening world wide as so called religious and political leaders keep using fear, hate, lies and prejudice to get votes or shove thier beliefs down people's throats. They do not realize that their anti- gay comments do have an affect on the general population. I know there will always be bigots in the world and people who are not tolerant but it worsens the problem when the ultra conservative and the religious rights are not held accountable for their hate spewing.

POPSDid an embezzlement scandal force Palin to resign? Alaska bloggers have reported in recent weeks that “a long simmering embezzlement/IRS scandal is still being looked at by the feds.” In her press conference today, Palin asked the public to “trust me with this decision and know that it is no more politics as usual.” She’s right about one thing, stepping down is in the best interest of Alaska.

POPSExplanations for the Palin spending spree "I saw the RNC statement on Gov. Palin’s $150,000 clothing bender on the RNC's tab. This caper is gonna make for a long day at the office for the good folks at the RNC/McCain press operation. Thought I’d offer a little help in a humorous vein; some other possible spin lines for the RNC."

POPSIs The "Scientific Consensus" On Global Warming A Myth?
Their work is cited and acclaimed throughout the scientific community. No wonder Gore and his allies want to pretend they don't exist. This is the one book that PROVES the science is NOT settled. The scientists profiled are too eminent and their research too devastating to allow simplistic views of global warming--like Al Gore's--to survive. Al Gore says any scientist who disagrees with him on Global Warming is a kook, or a crook. Guess he never met these guys Dr. Edward Wegman demolishes the famous "hockey stick" graph that launched the global warming panic Prof. Hendrik Tennekes states "there exists no sound theoretical framework for climate predictability studies" used for global warming forecasts. Dr. Antonino Zichichi who discovered nuclear antimatter--calls global warming models "incoherent and invalid." Dr. Syun-Ichi Akasofu twice named one of the "1,000 Most Cited Scientists," says much "Arctic warming during the last half of the last century is due to natu

POPSMcCain acceptance speech: I WAS A POW "And I have the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not." How would he help poor people? "I will keep taxes low...My opponent will raise them." And then bemoans "partisan rancor." And the crowd breaks into a chant of "Drill, baby, drill!" This is a snow job if ever one has been foisted upon America. Give 'em answers that do nothing and make 'em feel patriotic about entropy.

POPS Shoe Trees, almost universl.. "Maybe what’s most interesting about these bits of folklore though isn’t that they exist, however, but that shoe-flinging isn’t limited to the U.S.–even though as best we can tell shoe trees are. In the Middle East, shoe-tossing or striking is a sign of extreme contempt, almost the exact opposite of the North American meaning, and shoefiti, a pair of old sneakers hanging off of power lines, are almost universal".
