POPSMultiplying by Fractions: Gov't Stimulus trying to raise the GDP Prof. Barro of Harvard has written an article in the WSJ on the multiplier effect, or lack there of. Bottom line is that government stimulating spending will likely raise the GDP by less than the increase in government spending. Even without a multiplier larger than 1, government spending could be the least costly way of arresting the economic fall. I have issues with how this stimulus seems to be re-inflating the bubble that got us here in the first place.

POPSIt's About Spain Today, Tomorrow....the US? Banks in Spain are manipulating the housing market by artificially shoring up excess demand. Are we to believe that buying 110,000 homes was an investment made for returns? I hope I don't hear a echo of this thinking in the U.S. Sadly, hopes do not dictate reality.

POPSIndividual Sovereignty Capt A, an expatriate who left the American shores 35 years ago quoted Henry L. Menchen in a comment he posted to a blog on Sotomayer, Freedom, and the law. For an organism as large and as powerful as the United States "what it takes" is a frightening thought.
