POPSDrupal Training for Newbies What a great way to introduce community members to the power of content management systems like drupal. I think it would be great to bring a bunch of people together to sponsor one or two of these training sessions. Maybe I'll get around to creating an eCampaign to gather together the interested parties, lord knows that the nonprofits around here really need to get on the web2.0 bandwagon and interact and learn from their client-constituents! I'm sick of knowing more than the people in charge, but not having any way to communicate what I know, and be heard. That is all about to end- the real benefits of the internet are upon us.

thinking towards the web empowering people in real ways, to make real world changes, that were otherwise impossible. using social networking sites for more than simple games, like relationship-building tools for people unable to leave their homes, and map tagging that creates real-time records of abandoned properties, vandalism, etc., giving people in poverty a tool to manage their collective knowledge of the neighborhoods in which they live.-- What I wouldn't give for a web-based interface that would allow members of my community to tag a City of Buffalo / erie county parcel-overlay with pertinent information, such as ...kids coming in and out of vacant property at 300 Potomac Pky @ date and time OR demolition starting at the old house on Main Street cermaic tile being thrown out OR aspestos left uncovered in North Buffalo residential district for 1 week with link to pics and more information about the harmful effects of aspestos OR , OR, AND, AND --it will be beautiful!

POPSdrupal + crm integration might have to call myself a civicrm convert, sugarcrm still doesn't integrate this naturally with drupal, or provide all of the built-in nonprofit orientation that civicrm does.

POPSAlternative Employment for Disabled People Social Firms are needed to employ people with disabilties who have higher than base-level skills. Why would someone who was a doctor want to assemble curtain rods for a living after a minor head injury? I think it is telling that when you apply for TANF, food stamps, or medicaid in the US the only information they collect from you about your educational background is a box that you check if you "have your GED or completed highschool." There is no place for you if you have a PhD and need help getting back to work. It doesn't fit into the myth that people are in poverty because they lack education, personal savings, or motivation. In reality, we are all just playing musical chairs.

POPSEnterprise Relationship Software for Social Services A five year contract seems like a very short amount of time. All of those computer illiterate caseworkers at social services won't be up-to-speed with one ERM solution within that five years of the contracts lifetime. And, unfortunately, I think it is going to take a bit more than computer literacy to get people at the DSS caring about managing positive relationships with the customers- individual citizens.

The people must be empowered with the information that is typically held by the government, development organizations, and those with developed computer skills and high-speed internet access. PPGIS will facilitate the participation of marginalized members of society in the creation of the ecocity. It can be integrated with accessibility software and accessed from libraries, computing centers, and other designated points in the neighborhood, and should be integrated with a user-friendly interface —such as google maps, rather than the more technologically and geographically -oriented interface employed in typical online GIS sites.
