Two of Gandhi's beliefs 60 years After Indian Independencence
pjn58
by pjn58  8-14-2007
Gandhi's fears for an industrialised India look like being fulfilled. As for religions monopolising the "truth" - the world is fuller than ever of religions doing battle on the truth front.

Summer Floods in Britain - a Religious Perspective

This man is in a position of religious authority within a mainstream UK religious organisation - does his God punish whole communities (both "good" & "bad" individuals) for the "sins" of the few? If so he has a vicious & spiteful god.

"Drug Companies are Evil" - Discuss
pjn58
by pjn58  8-6-2007    5
Ben Goldacre (the author of this piece) states "everybody is a socialist when it comes to healthcare, but nobody knows what to do with those feelings any more." My suggestion is to lobby politicians to take leading drug companies into public ownership - about as likely as turkeys voting for Christmas.

Publishers Who Make Profit from Public Funds

Effective Alternative Medicine Practitioners Need To Be Good Liars
pjn58
by pjn58  8-15-2007
Alternative medicine disciples will trot out the "a lack of evidence doesn't mean absence of evidence" mantra but logical thinking raises this interesting observation. Alternative medicine practitioners who adopt a rational stance to their profession have to be good liars - if thy aren't then the good old placebo effect doesn't work.

Protecting Children or Covering Corporate Arses?
pjn58
by pjn58  8-15-2007
Children should be protected from any threat - few would disagree. However the increasing social pressure to "vet" adults who work with young people undermines the adult / child relationship & fosters an atmosphere of presumed threat where little actually exists. The vast majority of child abuse by adults occurs within families (I speak from personal childhood experience). Stranger danger is thankfully a very, very, very rare occurrence.
