    How to Get From a 7 to a 10
    Kore7
    by Kore7  9-5-2007    8
What's your 7? Do you want more? Is a 10 even possible? Sometimes you need to step down first to find that next step up. Getting past a 7 is hard. It can take more effort to get past a 7 than it takes to reach a 7 in the first place. Some people would complain that it takes too long to get past a 7. But the truth is that the time is going to pass anyway. Even if it takes 5-10 years, you might as well get yourself to a higher level within that time, since the years are going to pass anyway. Whenever I feel I’ve gotten stuck at a 7, I stop and ask myself: What would a 10 look like?

Being labeled as 'Gifted' Undermine Personal Growth?
    rhymonde
    by rhymonde  3-19-2007
I was quite a timid and shy boy,and later on for that I got called 'gifted' just because of the fact that I was concentrating on homework when other kids were doing what a 'normal' kid should do,that is playing outside. Now several years later just a few days ago I found myself still being called 'gifted' by my high school philosophy teacher, which could have possibly--according to this theory--resulted in my miserable failure today at the monthly tests, and I would say that the praise did do something to my ego which just arrogantly let the classes and real learning slip through. We made fun though,of me,saying things like I failed 'cause I was too talented by the dumb test standard,or 'being illogical is a sign of superb genius' etc. I gotta change my attitude, huh?

Why Working Less is Better for the Globe
    JICWyllie
    by JICWyllie  5-21-2007    1
Bertand Russell wrote a brilliant little book called 'In Praise of Idleness' in the 1930s which put this argument beautifully, including the environmental degradation. He asks whether the point of life was moving matter from one place to another, or telling other people to do so, and concludes that it isn't.

North American Electricity Demand Continues To Outpace Resource Growth
    JICWyllie
    by JICWyllie  10-22-2007
Where will the money for this multi-billion dollar investment come from? Electricity users, no doubt, who will also be burdened by the increasing price of fossil fuels. The smart thing to do is curb demand. Reduce the number of unessential electronic devices we use, turn off the broadband connection unless we are actively using it. Buy your own personal solar / wind generation systems, both to save outgoings and guarantee security of at least a basic electricity supply.

He said the fetal community is unanimously pro-life but he said he's spoken to other fetuses who were recently born and many are reconsidering their stand on the issue. "After you come out, abortion isn't really that big a deal anymore. I think euthanasia, child abuse, and the lack of Chuck E Cheese's are the issues of the day."

These people disgust me. While I had 3 children and they were all that I could handle, they turned out just fine. Next thing you know, we'll be following the dictates of China and forcing people to kill off their offspring for the sake of the "State"....oops! the environment. If it says "Green", I immediately oppose it. I wish that were not true. I care for my personal environment as well as anyone, but this goes way tooooo far.

On Twitter, has conversation become a broadcast?
    egoldstein
    by egoldstein  5-5-2009    1
A very interesting perspective on the way growth has changed the user experience on twitter. Quite honestly, i was never into twitter when it was smaller (i'm just a helpless fool jumping on the bandwagon - like many others i suspect), so i really can't offer mcuh personal perspective on the way it was. One thing i would imagine is that many users who are following 1000s of people use third party apps to create smaller groups of people they actually follow and primarily ignore the rest. It would be very interesting to know what percentage of people being followed are actually being followed. Following people in an effort to post high numbers versus actually paying attention are two totally different things.

Palin For Vice President: Palin on the Issues

SMALL BUSINESS – “As Mayor and CEO of the booming city of Wasilla, my team invited investment and encouraged business growth by eliminating small business inventory taxes, eliminated personal property taxes, reduced real property tax mill levies every year I was in office, reduced fees, and built the infrastructure our businesses needed to grow and prosper.” MILITARY - “I respect our military personnel and understand the importance of Alaska's National Guard. As I watched our military men and women being deployed I recognized how important it is for their families to know how much Alaska and America support them.” HEALTH CARE – “I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. I also support patients in their rightful demands to have access to full medical billing information.”

    "Rich States, Poor States"
    merrie
    by merrie  5-18-2009    1
New York and Ohio and relocated mostly to the nine tax-haven states with no income tax, including Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire and Texas. We also found that over these same years the no-income tax states created 89% more jobs and had 32% faster personal income growth than their high-tax counterparts. New Hampshire helps give the lie to the feeble counterargument. Those who disapprove of tax competition complain that lower state taxes only create a zero-sum competition where states "race to the bottom" and cut services to the poor as taxes fall to zero. They say that tax cutting inevitably means lower quality schools and police protection as lower tax rates mean starvation of public services. They're wrong, and New Hampshire is our favorite illustration. The Live Free or Die State has no income or sales tax, yet it has high-quality schools and excellent public services.
