POPSJodie Comes Out Guess what conservative America? There are so many gays and lesbians in your own families. In fact, I doubt there's on American family today that doesn't count at least one gay or lesbian member somewhere in its ranks. Count them--and then love them. Isn't it totally un-Christ-like to turn against your own son or daughter, or brother or sister, just because he or she happens to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual? What difference does it make? He may be gay, but he's still your son. She may be a lesbian, but she's still your daughter. Sure, evangelical ministers and conservative politicians will continue to denounce homosexuality from the pulpit and urge parishioners to join them in denying equal rights to gays and lesbians. And some poor misguided souls will blindly agree. But their hate speech will eventually fail, as people realize those attacks are directed against the people they love the most, their family members.

Most evangelicals focus on the what they believe to be the bad aspects of the GLBT community. This focus is broad casted to society and then society takes that image and builds their conclusions of GLBT people, causing much misconceptions. If only they knew that the majority of us live normal, everyday lives. Many cannot be detected unless they told their sexual preference. Share the knowledge! They do not realize that their anti- gay comments do have an affect on the general population. POPSNew Hampshire Civil Unions are a Hit It warms my heart to welcome another state into the group that permits Civil Unions between same-sex couples, along with Massachusetts, which remains the only state to permit actual legal gay marriage. In the past few years the resistance to GLBT rights and same-sex couple recognition is waning. It is only a matter of time that couples such as Arnold and I will be able to have our partnerships recognized in every state of the union. Of course, since we live in Canada (although we are both American citizens) we are able to legally marry, and we will be doing so next September, but it will be nice when all our brethren south of the border will have the same recognition and respect.

POPSThank Goodness at least one state gets it While I am not happy that North Carolina has two laws on the books preventing gay marriage or recognizing gay marriages from other states, I am thrilled that the Democratic controlled congress realizes that writing discrimination into the state constitution is wrong and refuses to be bullied by bible thumping bigots.

POPSMaking History: Man Prepares To Give Birth This is completely fascinating to me. Of course, it reminds me of the old Billy Crystal movie, "The Rabbit Test", where Crystal plays a man who becomes pregnant. I haven't seen that movie in years. But, ever since I saw it, I have watched to see if science would ever advance the real idea of men giving birth. Technically, the man in this clip is transgendered, meaning he was born with female reproductive organs, but looks like a man and lives as a male. The discrimination and the bigotry that he has faced through the healthcare system and from his own family is sad and despicable. I will continue to follow this story with some fascination. Mostly because it smacks in the face of everything we have come to know and expect when it comes to the idea of creating a family.

I know it is too late for Shrub to grew a heart or a conscience and that he learned his compassion from his mother, Barbara, who said Katrina survivors in Texas were better off because they had been so poor in New Orleans. POPSArkansas Legislator introduces bill to ban Gay & Lesbian Foster Parenting and Adoption Yet, another state tries to ban Gays and Lesbians from adopting or being foster parents. This bill is written so that it would also disalow straight but not married couples from being foster parents or adopting unless they were related to the child. Shawn Womack is more concerned with promoting anti-gay laws than he is in protecting children. A Loving Family Home is what a child needs. It does not matter if their are two mommies, two dads or a "traditional" male/female couple.

Tom Brinkman knowingly let employees falsify signatures on a petition attempting to repeal a Cincinnati ordinance protecting Gays from discrimination. The judge who called Bigot Brinkman on his actions is himself a Republican but one who upholds the law unlike the Bigot Brinkman. Ohio needs to make sure this jerk is not reelected to office!!!

I suppose there are those who'd say that a 14-year-old boy who wears mascara to school deserves whatever he gets, but personally I have some trouble with that position. I suppose there are also those who'd say that there's nothing wrong with allowing 14-year-olds access to firearms, either.

POPSElderly gays forging new alliances There are over 2.5 million gay seniors in the U.S. All of them have lived through the days when being gay meant facing discrimination, job loss, familial animosity, alienation of friends etc. But times have changed, and gay seniors have new recognition as important members of society. Sage, is a new organization, supported by AARP that helps gay seniors live the kind of lives to which they are entitled. Finally, elders who happen to be gay, can join us younger gays in taking our place in the new freedoms, being granted us in the ever expanding acceptance and tolerance of society. Things are far from perfect, but we are definitely getting there.

Richardson does not stand a chance of winning the nomination but it is nice to see him standing up for what he believes in. His record on GLBT issues has been great in his carreer as Governor of New Mexico.
