    How has McCain been "tested?"
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-26-2008    4
And so, the point is even more clear-cut than it might seem at first glance: Just because "John McCain sat in a cockpit on a flight deck during the tensest five days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, that doesn't mean he absorbed the slightest bit of wisdom about how to handle a crisis from the top." Just being a fighter pilot or a POW doesn't mean you are ready to be president. Nobody really is and this whole experience thing, on both sides, is an enormous red herring.

Tired of Divisive Whining - Not John

    by oscarrob  10-23-2008
Do these guys have anything to say? Even republicans I know who are voting for them think this is divisive and bad for the country. What really disturbs me is the continued mantra - "the full extent of the relationship with Senator Obama is not known." In his mind no explanation will be good enough. It is the most despicable, divisive and detestable kind of attempted smear. Forget that Obama, the campaign, FactCheck.org, and many media outlets have said that the relationship consisted of participation on the charitable

    The real Presidential Competition

    by oscarrob  10-20-2008    3
I am convinced now that the real competition here is to see who can be the most disingenuous. McCain seems to be winning in that regard. He is willing to say absolutely anything to win. Obama keeps screwing up and saying things he actually believes.

Forget the partisan bull. If ACORN is paying people based on either quotas or the number of registrations submitted, that is wrong, stupid and bad policy. And if they are on Obama's side, they aren't doing him any favors. Stop whining about partisan politics and being defensive, tell us how you operate and what you do.

It probably won't happen because the campaign in mired in the muck of pandering to the "base." McCain sold his soul and now reaps the the "rewards." Had he not, this race could be very different. Had he remained the maverick he was, he could be winning.

    No Political Sermons?
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-6-2008
The good old days when powerful politicians could stomp all over free speech. "The debate over Jones’s bill and Johnson’s amendment reveals once again how confusing and confused church-state jurisprudence is and has always been and will always be. Both sides claim that the other is violating the separation of church and state. Barry Lynn, a minister who is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, argues that “We just can’t have sermons converted into political advertisements for candidates,” and he warns against using “church collection plate money on an ad telling people” to vote for one candidate rather than another. " Oh come on. Seperating church and state is one thing. Stopping the clergy from making political statements is a whole different and very dangerous ballgame. Are you going to stop the clergy from speaking on immigration? How about speaking out about the plight of the poor? Should they stop making speeches about genocide? I

Neutral is not good for Republicans
    oscarrob

As any man who has been married for more than ten minutes will admit, women make the world go round. The fact that women liked Palin but were basically neutral bodes ill, not well for the Republicans in this election. They need to gain ground, not just maintain and they can't seem to get any traction. It may however bode well for Sarah Palin's future. I predict that with some experience she will have a future in the party.

    Republican loss of Power
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  2-1-2007
The GOP lost the "O" in 1994. At the end of the day the American people don't like too much power to reside in one place. We don't like our government to be powerful. That is good and that is why the Republicans lost, their power (and its commensurate corruption) became too obvious.
