Have you ever watched a baseball game where every time the announcer says a good thing about your team or player you spend the next ten minutes spitting, throwing salt over your shoulder, knocking on every available piece of wood and crossing all available appendages? That's how the Democrats feel right now. It ain't over.....

Forget the partisan bull. If ACORN is paying people based on either quotas or the number of registrations submitted, that is wrong, stupid and bad policy. And if they are on Obama's side, they aren't doing him any favors. Stop whining about partisan politics and being defensive, tell us how you operate and what you do.

    Swift Satire gores both sides

I think Jon Swift is one of the funnies guys in the blogosphere. He goes on to say: "But some conservative “intellectuals” like David Brooks subscribe to the canard that the conservative movement was defined by pointy-headed eastern elites like William Buckley, whose “entire life,” Brooks recently wrote, “was a celebration of urbane values, sophistication and the rigorous and constant application of intellect.....Brooks even goes so far as to claim that conservatives once valued “constant reading, historical understanding and sophisticated thinking.” We did? Since when? Does he honestly believe that the conservative movement was based on people who read books? Reagan wasn’t elected by the Harvard faculty. It was an angry mob tired of welfare queens and pinko fellow travelers selling us out to the Soviet Union that put him in office."

The "people who should be shot" are the morons at NBC who are discriminatory in their censorship of humor. Its not like there is a lot done at the expense of the democrats/liberals.

Guilt by association is simply wrong. The democrats should no more engage in it than the Republicans and they shouldn't do it even if the McCain campaign does. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it.

    No Bipartisanship for Palin/McCain

    by oscarrob  10-6-2008
Oops, I guess it McCain/Palin. They know people want change so they talk about change and offer none. They know people don't want polarization so they talk about bipartisanship but engage in the worst sort of Joe McCarthy type accusations. I am wondering when Sarah Palin is going to come out and say "I have here in my hand a list of democrats who have associated with known terrorists."

Biden allows Palin to look good
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-3-2008
The strategy was exactly right. In essense it was a strategy that said Palin doesn't matter. The voters have seen, and she will show, what kind of successor she will make. Attacking her is just hitting a tar baby. The real target was McCain and using Biden to attack him was masterful. They have, after all, known each other and been members together in the most exclusive club in the world for a long time. The strategy worked well because she didn't really score hits on Obama and McCain can't really attack Biden without looking petty. The best moment was when she slipped and said "John McCain must leave....lead..."

    Biden v. Palin
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-3-2008    1
On CNN someone said that she would be a candidate in four or eight years. I have no doubt that’s true. She reminds me of a talented sixth round pick in the NFL. She needs some development but with some time on the practice squad she will be a contributor to the Republican Party. Gone is the impression left from the Couric interviews that she is just a dope. The verdict Biden wins. Palin holds her own and improves.

    McCain's Anger Part II
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-2-2008    3
Is this the man you want running the country? Is this the temperament you want for commander in chief of the most powerful military force in the world? Is this the kind of person you want to be negotiating with the likes of China, Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia? Is this the kind of person you want to solidify relationships with allies? I used to think I could possibly vote for McCain. Obama seemed too full of fluff. Obama has not gained much in the way of substance. But I simply can't vote for McCain any more.

Conservatives target 12-year-old boy and his family in S-CHIP debate
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  10-9-2007
What kind of people go after a poor twelve year old kid and his family? Usually I have some respect for both sides (or at least I respect them both equally), but this is just unconscionable. As the article goes on to say: "Now, when dealing with a large group of conservatives who oppose healthcare for poor children on principle, I suppose it’s best to keep expectations low. But this is perhaps the most vile smear the right has launched in recent memory. The Frosts are not political candidates. They are not publicity-seekers. They are not political players of any kind. This is a family who can’t afford healthcare for their kids who need it, and they showed courage asking the president to do what’s right for other families in similar circumstances." Cynics, whom I generally hold in high regard when it comes to politics, like Malkin, ought to step back and look themselves in the mirror. Lambaste the Dems for using the family, but don't go after poor folks and their 12 year old.

Colonel Calls treason, Economist calls for Coup
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  5-9-2007    2
I find this thinking frightening. First - a military coup is by definition treason. Second - Therefore by this reasoning, the people espousing the view that a coup is the solution are actually more treasonous than those they accuse. This is fairly typical for those advocating a coup. Third - The Buzz Peterson interview ignores the first clause of the definition of treason, which in my view is tied to the second and therefore the second makes no sense without the first. Here is the whole definition; "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." "Adhering" is a fairly specific term, meaning joining or becoming a part of. The aid and comfort part is tied to the adhering part and tied to the war part. People who say we should be fighting Al Qaeda in different ways, can not be said to be adhering or giving aid and comfort by their mere words. Its always the Colonels.

    by oscarrob  4-9-2007
The strategy is indeed short sighted and foolish. This administration's justice department, ironically, invented the tactic of charging for the cover-up not the crime. If department officials continue to do this they can expect the treatment Gonzales is getting despite having the power to fire US Attorneys. They should start answering the questions, its a lot less painful and makes for less speculation that plays into democrats' hands.

I am always foolishly surprised when politicians object to their opponents doing what they themselves have been doing forever. George Bush is objecting to pork barrel spending?!      I hate to agree with Bush. He got us into an unnecessary war, which is inexcusable. I do, however, think that pulling out now is wrong. Iraq will devolve into even more chaos and Iran will take over. Just because we don't want to have been put in the war, we were and we have to do the right things by Iraq and the world so Iraq doesn't disintegrate because of what we have done, and Iran, a dangerous supporter of terrorism, doesn't gain hegemony in the Middle East.

    Republican loss of Power
    oscarrob
    by oscarrob  2-1-2007
The GOP lost the "O" in 1994. At the end of the day the American people don't like too much power to reside in one place. We don't like our government to be powerful. That is good and that is why the Republicans lost, their power (and its commensurate corruption) became too obvious.
