POPSUS Lags World Production of Electric Cars "Chinese leaders have adopted a plan aimed at turning the country into one of the leading producers of hybrid and all-electric vehicles within three years, and making it the world leader in electric cars and buses after that..."

POPSNew Technology: Flat Speakers "Lightweight and inexpensive to manufacture, the speakers are slim and flexible: they could be concealed inside ceiling tiles or car interiors, or printed with a design and hung on the wall like a picture." Very cool - I bet they'll be very expensive.

POPSThe Obama Dog - Carolina Recipes I think the pineapples & red peppers ought to be be chopped up as a spicy chutney myself, the bun should be lightly toasted, and the Vidalia onion should be shredded up in home made coleslaw topping, but that's just me.

POPSTwitter and Social Media to be Taught in Schools If kids need to learn about history, they can just Google it! All kidding aside, really the debate going in UK schools is that kids will not learn to appreciate the Art of Reading for what it is... One of the comments made an excellent point: Why teach Twitter & SM to kids when they already know how to work the Internet better than we do! Well, if they alter the curriculum, it will be the biggest change the school system has seen in over a decade. I say Twit lil Tweeters!

POPSTaping Phone Calls at a Glance - 50 State Laws Each and every time I get a Client on the phone, I always say, "Gosh, I wish that conversation were taped!" They always express their passion about a product or a service that I sometimes don't hear from them all the time - AND I think their customers ought to hear directly from them why they are so wonderful. BUT, each state has it's own laws on the matter and I thought the results were very interesting to share.

POPSPlaying the Recession Race Card! I am just not certain this is unbiased journalism! I live in the deep south (US) and I see everyone equally in the pink-slip line! I am seeing a lot more of the "country club" set skipping rope in the foreclosure line than blacks and latinos...in fact, the laborers around my neck of the woods seem to be the only ones prospering well with steady employment and job security! QUOTE: "There are no recent government statistics that measure jobs lost by race and income. But Darity and others believe that professional Latinos and blacks are more likely to lose their jobs in the recession." QUOTE: "Not saying that it's racism," Medley said," (Yes, you are, you just did!) IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE STATS TO BACK IT UP, DO NOT MAKE UP CONJECTURE OR "ASSUMPTIONS" WITHOUT THE REAL FACTS, or more people will be unnecessarily riled up without cause.

POPSWhy Facebook Won't Listen! This is one of the best written articles I have ever read. If I am understanding it correctly, FB really doesn't care about "we the little people" because they are making billions...and in the long run, the owner of a prosperous company does what is best for the company. Period. I'm supposing there simply are not enough petitions I can sign saying how bad FB sucks right now cause I can't "find all my stuff" anymore - so I better just quit whining about it.

POPSMounds of Disgustingly Delicious Food I'm hungry now...but after seeing all this, I will never fry anything ever again! My new name is Baked N. Broiled. There are hundreds of food photos on this site. I have never been here before and was kinda shocked.

POPSA List of Podcasts: Marketing Resources Lately I have been using BlogTalk Radio. It's free. There are no strict timetables for when you HAVE to produce a show. It fits my late-night time table and I get to interview people who are helping others in my community. I personally love it. But there are so many others out there you need to be aware of if you have a message to get out.

POPSPrepare For A Pet Emergency Great stats: In the U.S., pets outnumber humans by about 60 million. 63% of all households own a pet, 45% own more than one. We own an estimated 73 million dogs, 90 million cats.

POPSTwitter Inspired Tattoos for Charity I guess I would get a tattoo if I were passionate enough for the cause. "IF" I had a hard body that people would appreciate seeing the message on - I suppose I would. Who wants to see a message embossed on a 40 year old anyway? If I could go back to being 18 and know what I know now...I'd be littered with ink like a walking billboard! I'm too shy to go about scantily clad. Having a "Stop the Violence" tattoo on my, say, ankle, would not serve the greater good of the cause. I like the tattoo in the picture. Our generation is the only one who knows what the significance of "@" even means.

POPSAn Interactive Tool to Match Wine with Meals It's a cute gadget. But there are some good related links to proper wine technique. Real Simple is a good online magazine for hints and tips. They send me a weekly news alert thingie that is very helpful for removing stains, green cleaners you can make at home and other crafty stuff.

POPSMonument to Dead Fetus Proposal
I am really surprised at Wendell Gilliard. Wendell was 10 years on the Charleston District 6 City Council before recently vacating the seat to move up to the House for SC. Everyone liked him well enough. Across the board when asked what his greatest achievement was for the City of Charleston in over a decade, his constituents give him props for having a naughty bookstore zoned out of the area - not much else! Now his first big deal on the table is for a monument to the dead fetuses? You have got to be kidding me! I don't even think we have a monument to the fallen soldiers in Iraq yet. So, "private" donations are going to pay for it, but forever more, the taxpayers will have to sustain it. That's just a giant load of malarkey. With SO many more important issues affecting our people right now, there are so many other things tax dollars need to go to other than dead fetus statue maintenance fees. Only 349 of 5,353 reg. voters voted to fill Wendell's empty Dist.

POPS100 Clever Expressions to Insult Someone I was about to Clip something utterly stupid that one of our newly seated SC Representatives came up with and I decided to Google "a clever way to call someone STUPID." I did not just want to write "that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard of." The old me would have, but in my old age, I am trying to work on my sharp tongue. It's just not nice. If you will excuse the title of the article, I think a lot of these expression are quite good. I did not count all of them to see if there really were 100, but there are a ton of real gems here. I found the one I want to use in my political article, "Keep talking, someday you'll say something intelligent." I better hush now, "my mouth is getting too big for my muzzle."

POPSBreast is Best - by Jeff Walker My friend, Jeff Walker, discusses how men love the breast...chicken, that is. I was waiting for the restaurant plug, but there was none. Just an article about how men love delicious chicken breasts. Maybe part two will include where to dine for the best dressed breast.

POPSFacebook: Defining Your Social Protocols
I have been trying to find a long lost friend of mine from school for about 20 years now. If anyone knows what happened to Theresa Blankenship - call me! That in itself is not why I joined and participate in the Facebook Community. Facebook is an excellent tool for networking, keeping abreast of local community events, international charities, and sometimes just pure entertainment. It's no secret: I love my virtual pet, Kiku. Recently, I have been adding "friends" that I went to high school with. I don't necessarily know these people personally, I just recognize their face, or remember their notoriety from the good ole days. What's wrong with that? What's all the hubbub? If they do not want to connect, all they have to so is ignore the invite. I will not be crushed. Each one of us has the responsibility to define our own social networking protocols. As for me, I think there is nothing wrong with meeting new people and sharing ideas and information. It's a good thing.

POPSOlympic Swimmer Phelps Goes to Pot
Micheal Phelps was caught hitting the pot-pipe in South Carolina. At least it wasn't the crack-pipe! He says he's only 23 and acted in a "youthful way." Perhaps I'm a little cynical in my old age, but I am really sick of people making excuses for their bad behavior! Micheal Phelps is a hero for young kids ages 8 and above. Memberships to community pools and swim clubs have soared, filled with little tadpoles who see their future dreams through him. What a shame. What a shame. His mother NEEDS to be ashamed of him. Mind you, I am not condemning pot smokers of the world. My bad attitude and lack of sensitivity for Phelp's SC experiment with the Purple Sticky Punch comes from years of working with troubled youth who crave positive role models in this world...and can find so few that are worthy. When you enter arena of public scrutiny and are looked up to by the whole world...you should set a better example. Along with all the glory comes a certain measure of responsibi

POPSScribd Fights Back - Copyright Issues We live in a commercial world where everyone wants their news and information, not just at their fingertips, they want it faster, quicker, better and more of it. Copyright issues are bound to creep up. All in all, Scribd is a phenomenal tool to have in your arsenal if you want to publish...anything. Not to be off topic, but the Scribd online community is actually a very effective networking tool, too. It may not be of the Facebook or LinkedIn caliber yet for smoozing, but I have been fortunate enough to make some very profitable business connections and forge a few lasting friendships through their in-portal communication network. If you don't know about Scribd and their new publishing technologies, you should definitely check them out.

POPSCanada is US Top Petroleum Supplier The US makes about 5 million barrels of petroleum per day. Then, we import twice as much: <10 million barrels per day. So how much petroleum product do we actually consume in a day? Over 20 million barrels of petroleum a day. That's staggering! Canada is the largest supplier of petroleum to the US, then Saudi Arabia, then...Mexico! I never knew that.

POPSProcess Capability: Inspirational Quotes from Astronauts The title of the blog post is called "Zooming in and Zooming Out." From a Process Engineering perspective, sometimes you're up to your eyeballs in minutia to figure out the solution to a problem. Other times, it is much better to be able to appreciate the "whole" of a situation to grasp the significance. It's rather like having the ability of "zooming in and zooming out" of focus. On our journey, we deal with our existence related to our situations and circumstances. However, the beautiful words of inspiration quoted here from various astronauts gives a whole new way to think about the process of life.
