Give Peace a Chance? Not here, not now, it seems
    nedhamson1
    by nedhamson1  12-2-2009
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if the "leaders" in Palestine and Israel went to sleep for 20 years - would the ordinary people figure out how to live together in peace? At the least, they could could probably figure out how to speak plainly about what they were doing and why.

    by nedhamson1  10-11-2009
The push to send more troops in is a lot more about scoring political points and CYA than it is about serving national interests, helping our troops there, or aiding the Afghans.

J Street New Washington, DC Superstar?
    nedhamson1
    by nedhamson1  10-2-2009
J Street has grown in influence very quickly. One of the prime reasons, I believe is that in the past 40 years peace never got close to settling the land and right to return questions or how an independent Palestine could be viable. The current 20-40 year old group have very little willingness to go slow about getting to yes. To them a year is a long time. Whether they have staying power is the big question but building momentum for change - yes they have!

Up is Down, Peace is War, Love is Hate - Huh?
    nedhamson1
    by nedhamson1  9-17-2009
When you look at how we have made being at war seem nothing more than a video game, is it any wonder that people think the war in Iraq is over, that we are not really at war in Somalia, that Afghanistan is a "good war" like WWII was? I am not sure anymore what it will take for people to wake up to the facts that our economy depends on war, climate suicide and agriculture-based cancers (our steady diet of pesticides and fertilizers in food and water - what do you think is driving pancreatic cancer epidemic?). I do hope that sharing via Amplify helps to dirve real change in not just hand wringing.
