Dying to get to the USA
    nedhamson1
    by nedhamson1  11-1-2009
We arrest and charge those trying to leave water and food for those who risk their lives crossing the desert to get here. Prior to 1848 - this was their ancestors land but we draw a line and say die if you cross without permission. From space, you cannot see those lines - just one earth.

You did not create this ugly mess of detention centers that has all the earmarks of being as bad as Walter Reed was for veterans. Place a priority on it and clean up and establish visible and enforceable rules of humane conduct in pubic and for-profit private facilities!

Dolphins do good without even trying - smile

Great story of what a young girl learned from an encounter with a dolphin. Wouldn't it be nice if wannabe nature engineers "learned" as much from their encounters with nature. Then we wouldn't really have to worry about alligator-tomato mutants eating Cleveland.

Slaughtering the Amazon and the Earth
    nedhamson1
    by nedhamson1  6-2-2009
When you lace up your favorite pair of shoes, you could unknowingly be unraveling the Amazon rainforest. It turns out leather coming from the Amazon rainforest is being used to make a number of consumer products, perhaps even the Nike, Adidas, Timberland, or Reebok shoes you're wearing right now. Take Action NOW >> Tell Adidas, Nike and others that every step counts when it comes to saving the Amazon, so it’s time they step up.

She's a U.S. citizen, and her children are, too, but the day before Good Friday last year, the man in their lives was deported, she said. He had been here nine years and worked as a roofer, Bautista said. "I ask you, if you were in my shoes, would you like to see your family separated as we are?" she asked the crowd.

    by nedhamson1  1-27-2009
Bummer! There's just no getting away from facts that industrialized animal farming has bad effects on people, and the planet. When there were thousands of small farmers, instead of hundreds of mega-industrialized farms animals did not get so stressed and disease prone. Forget if you are a vegan, it still gets to you. Let's hear it for going back to small farms!

The only part of this that is news, is that it took 7 plus years for this and other Inspector Generals to work up the courage to tell the truth. Once the debacle of Katrina began, it should have been obvious to everyone that ideology not competence, being law abiding, or having common decency was the hallmark of nearly all of the Bush League helpers.

    by nedhamson1  12-3-2008
"There is nothing that can be produced through radiation induced mutation that is not within the spectrum of possibilities of what nature can bring out in that crop, given sufficient space and time. All radiation induced mutation is doing is to facilitate a naturally occurring phenomenon." And there is no residual radiation left in a plant after the mutation induction, he says. " Why is it that scientist's become simpering idiots and unscientific when they enter the promotion game of their favored technical solution for the planet? No danger from residual radiation - true. Danger from unforeseen circumstances due lack of diversity in agriculture - lots! If latest whiz bang, nuked wheat or rice becomes the one crop fits all and nature says, "yummie, let me create a new bacteria or predator for this new over-abundant species," then poof! whole crops are wiped out and new food hunger is created!
