POPSIsraeli Soldiers Refuse to serve in Gaza People here in US can protest and support either side (I believe both sides should choose ceasefire). In Israel or Gaza, choosing not to fight now, on your own, is an act of high moral courage.

POPSThe Business of Detaining Families Let's hope that the new Sec. of Homeland Security can sort this all out and stop the business of breaking up families and treating all these people as if they are all hardened criminals.

POPSJudge overrides jury and orders death penalty Let the jury decide is the usual tenet in law - why ignore it now? Will the young man's death make up for the death he caused? Will society be better off? I grieve and pray for the family of the police officer killed, for the young man now sentenced to death, and for his family who face losing him now. A tragedy grown larger because the judge cannot honor the jury system.

POPSLetter from Gaza on life and death of a father The saddest aspect of all this insanity is that the same letter can and has probably been written by a son or daughter of an Israeli killed by a rocket fired from Gaza. If only the leaders of both sides had the wisdom, the writer shares about violence begetting more violence. Peace now!

POPSUSA leads world in sending its own people to jail I usually like it when the USA is number one but in this case, we could be doing better by being way down the list. The thousands upon thousands in jail for using marijuana could be better serving our nation by working at home, instead of in jail.

POPSYou Need a Lineup to Know Who the Scum Are The other day, an organization I thought was great - CARE - Asked me and thousands of others to buy Old Navy GAP and Banana Republic items on sale, so GAP would make a big donation to CARE. I had no handy list to see if those companies were not involved in child labor or abusive labor practices. It took me a while to find out that buying those products contributes to labor and child trafficking. We need the list that our government has and is supposed to publish!

POPSDead Zone in Global Oceans Growing About ten years ago, researchers found that there was a 70 mile dead zone where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico south of New Orleans. At the same time, they found that the delta that helped protect New Orleans from a Katrina level hurricane was also dying. The Mississippi drains 2/3s of the fresh water in the USA. Think about it and vote for someone who can say more than "Drill, Baby Drill and Drill Now!"

POPSChicago-area protest of raid on immigrant community It's sad that in Chicago area that they have seemingly gotten over past fears of Irish, Italian, Polish, Chinese, etc. legal and illegal immigrants - that our fears of immigrants from Spanish speaking countries still causes so much fear. What happened to Chicago with the "Big Shoulders?"

POPSImmigrants drive private prison profits Read and find out why undocumented immigrants are being treated as felons rather than people who broke regulations and ordered to leave and monitored until they left as was the case - it's money, money, money!

POPSFox TV - No Shame for Beck Trivializing Holocaust People have been making money by the sack full and gaining power and recognition for generations preaching about who listeners should hate, fear, outlaw, lynch, beat to death. Hitler and Stalin have been joined by Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs and many wannabe head haters - including an ex-governor. In a market-driven economy what's one of the best ways to respond? For me it is to let Fox and CNN know, I am not watching until things change and and recommending the same to others. No Fox, No CNN. No advertising on Fox or CNN. Will they miss me - grin? Only if several hundred thousand join with me in skipping their favorite shows on Fox and CNN. I managed to quit smoking after forty years - cold turkey - so I think I can manage without my local or national Fox, or even the shows I like on CNN until they change. How about you?

POPSDeath Row Error Rate: Can You Live With It? When most serious studies show that taking the life of a murderer does not have any measurable impact on the number of homicides - Doesn't it just make sense to use the life without parole sentence for the most heinous cases - just in case the person turns out to be innocent?

POPSFood crisis hits children the hardest "A significant part of last year's food price fluctuations were the result of excessive speculation in the commodities markets by the very hedge funds and investment banks that helped create the current economic meltdown," reads the letter, signed by 183 social justice and civil society groups. Speculation in commodity markets occurs when business entities -- such as hedge funds and investment banks -- take financial risks while buying or selling raw or primary products in international markets in hope of making profits down the road.

POPSGeorge Calin's Forbidden Words to Be Judged Again by Supremes An outburst from pain, disgust, or politically protected free speech, will be judged once again in the Supreme Court. FCC wants to protect viewers or listeners from a single use of an F word or an S word. And they are not even sure they will allow the use of the words in talking about them. Our Bush League President appointed the Chief Supreme but might be censored by him?
