Afghan Insurgents 'on brink of defeat' Task Force Helmand said
    merrie
    by merrie  6-2-2008
Alternative crops, such as wheat or rape, could prove a greater attraction than Helmand's massive opium trade, especially as international prices continue to rise. The ability of what is known as the Quetta Shura leadership had been "hugely reduced" and its influence "increasingly marginalised", the brigadier said. Michael Ryder, the senior Foreign Office official in Helmand, agreed that intelligence assessments suggested that the Taliban had become "fractured and fragmented". "There's a lot of suspicion from southern Taliban commanders of the agenda of Quetta Shura," he said, with the leaders trying to draw in an estimated £20 million a year from the opium trade. The number of Afghans involved in the insurgency has also fallen, with increasing numbers of Pakistanis, Chechens, Uzbeks and Arabs found dead on the battlefield.

I would try use some good meaty homemade stock instead of water and perhaps beef them up a bit with some jerky pieces or something. (They would look just like chocolate chip almost!) I can see myself making a lot of canine friends with this treat. Kids could even join in on baking these. I'm sure the dogs won't mind what they end up looking like. .:)

I don't know how people have been able to do it for so long. I'm going to have to seek God's guidance on this one. My goal is fifty percent raw - mostly salads and fresh fruits - and the rest to eat healther cooked foods - more veggie dishes, less meat dishes. Who's with me on this one?? Do you really think this type of diet makes the doctor bills / visits go away??

Frozen bananas mash really easily and are perfect for recipes like these. When ready to use, simply defrost the required amount in the microwave for about 30 seconds or leave it to thaw first, while preparing the other ingredients.

    Triple Chocolate Espresso Bean Cookies
    Rarhatten
    by Rarhatten  6-18-2007
Assemble dry ingredients: In a medium bowl whisk together the whole wheat pastry flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cacao powder. Set aside. Assemble the wet ingredients: In a big bowl or with an electric mixer beat the butter until it is fluffy and lightens a bit in color. Now beat in the sugar – it should have a thick frosting-like consistency. Mix in the eggs one at a time, making sure the first egg gets incorporated before adding the next. You will need to scrape down the sides of the bowl once or twice as well. Add the vanilla and mix until it is incorporated. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the wet mix in about four waves. Stir a bit between each addition until the flour is just incorporated. You could add all the flour at once, but it tends to explode up and out of the mixing bowl and all over me every time I do that. At this point you should have a moist, brown dough that is uniform in color. Stir in the espresso beans an

    Vegan Banana-Date-Walnut Muffins
    nattykhoo
    by nattykhoo  8-18-2007
These came out very light and sweet; J. actually asked if I had any "regular" muffins because "these are too sweet." You can probably reduce the sugar with no ill effects. The result was these amazing, tender, fat-free muffins Is the agave nectar necessary to the success of the muffin recipe? I think you could probably leave it out or use maple syrup or water instead. Of course, if you use water, it won't be as sweet. These are extraordinary! I used whole spelt and white spelt flours, respectively, in place of wheat. I also used about 1/3 cup sucanat for the sugar and only one tablespoon of agave (which I think helps the muffins get their golden brown hue). I added a pinch of nutmeg in addition to cinnamon. One of the things I like best about this recipe is the texture. The banana amount is perfect - enough to really taste like bananas and not just banana flavored flour. The vanilla and soymilk lend a really nice taste to the moist flavor, but they are not soggy at all.
