About me
I'm a school librarian, educator and a Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. independent associate. I have a really mean sweet tooth as illustrated by my profile picture.
Why I use Clipmarks
I started using Clipmarks as an experiment to see how it could be used in the classroom. I am still working on that.

I love reading in the subway in LA (Metro). It definitely is an art form. I used to have long discussions about the how best to fold the paper...a couple of New Yorkers taught me the proper way :)

NPR Morning Edition - Julius Schulman
missmartini
by missmartini  3-26-2009
This morning I listened to a wonderful story about Julius Schulman, who takes the most amazing architectural photographs. As an art history major and someone who delved a bit into American Studies at UCSC, I was introduced to the work of Julius Schulman. It is great to hear that you can still commission him to do work and that he is still taking images (he doesn't like the word "shoot") and is right here in LA. The photographs are amazing and the story is worth listening. They interviewed a woman who commissioned Schulman to photograph her home in Hancock Park and she said "He makes you see what you take for granted. And we do that in our houses. We do that in our marriages. We do that with our children," says Spiegel. "He has ability to stop time and let you see it and to remember why you fell in love with it." Wonderful piece of NPR news this morning. Enjoy!

School Librarianship Getting Noticed...
missmartini
by missmartini  2-16-2009
When I started in librarian school, all of my classmates, including myself, cringed at the thought of being a school librarian. I remember, Dr. Chu, stood in front of the orientation meeting and asked, "Does anyone want to be a school librarian?" No hands were raised but there were looks of fear and maybe even some of disgust. Why would you want that job? Kids? no job security? Kids? After holding practically every position one can have in a library and archive, I became one. It is one of the most challenging positions I have ever had. I learn from my colleagues and my students. I have to constantly be up-to-date on what is going on outside the library field. I get to do what I love and I love what I do. And I'm not just saying that. For the first time in my life, I actually really love my job or as we joke..my career. So here's to you fellow School Librarians and Media Specialists! Cheers!

Remembering Charlie Brown
missmartini
by missmartini  10-10-2008
Entertaining and humourous article that pays homage to Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown. My favorite :) Like Groening, I too used to spend hours drawing Peanuts cartoons because they "looked" easy. I loved Snoopy! I wanted a beagle before I knew that they were crazy dogs. I owned a Snoopy snowcone machine - which they re-released and I saw at Urban Outfitters. I had thing for Schroeder. Thanks a million Charles Schulz!
