POPSWhy do men shave? >> Alexander the Great never lost a battle, not to the Persians or to anyone else. But he did order his men shaved so that their beards could not be grabbed in battle. Same for the Romans. Yet you find many men who support a beard and I am sure there are a variety of reasons for that too, but I am not getting into that right now. I must admit though that a beard or a moustache alone on some men look very graceful. Now its your turn to talk, why do you shave guys? <<

POPSAbraham Lincoln on religion Two lesser-known pieces of writing from Lincoln that give some hints about his religious beliefs. Lincoln was notoriously cagey about his religious commitments -- he never attended church regluarly, nor did he ever make a public proclamation of faith.

POPSHave Gun - Will Travel Wyatt Earp died at home in the Earps' small apartment at 4004 W 17th Street, in Los Angeles, on 13 January, 1929 at the age of 80. Western actors William S. Hart and Tom Mix were pallbearers at his funeral. His wife Josie was too grief-stricken to attend. Josie had Wyatt's body cremated, and buried his ashes in the Marcus family plot at the Hills of Eternity, a Jewish cemetery (she was Jewish) in Colma, California. When she died in 1944, Josie's ashes were buried next to Wyatt's. The original gravemarker was stolen in 1957 but has since been replaced by a new standing stone.

POPSJFK's Daughter endorses Barack Obama for President, "A President Like My Father"
Senator Obama is running a dignified and honest campaign. He has spoken eloquently about the role of faith in his life. When it comes to judgment, Barack Obama made the right call on the most important issue of our time by opposing the war in Iraq from the beginning. I want a president who understands that his responsibility is to articulate a vision and encourage others to achieve it; who holds himself, and those around him, to the highest ethical standards; who appeals to the hopes of those who still believe in the American Dream, and those around the world who still believe in the American ideal; and who can lift our spirits, and make us believe again that our country needs every one of us to get involved. I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president — not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans.

POPSHow to talk to shyer and/or less social people -Don't be dismissive if they seem to dislike an outgoing person. -Don't be overly solicitous. -Be wary of topics they may not be comfortable with. -If you want to do something with them assume you're going to have to ask. -Don't take it personally if they want to escape after spending a few hours with you. I have been to both sides.Very interesting site, btw.

POPSBritain Slips from Fully "Free" Economic Countries Just why would you believe that the government would be able to spend all this money better than its individual citizens? Well, they have "free" health care, and "free" pensions and lost of "free" stuff that they get by shoveling 45% of their entire economy into the maw of bureaucrats. And then they wonder why they aren't happy?

POPSIn the eye of the beholder. Anyone interested in forming an informal art club on CM? No great aims. Post a picture. Ask others what they think about it - what they see. Tell them what you think about it - what you see. We all try to broaden our minds on many subjects; this is just another.
