About me
I'm Back
Mom of six, seven and under, four with autism. I am a wife, artist and graphic designer ,liberal, ecologist .....and I won't bore you with the rest.
If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."
"Liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man's ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves." -- Sen. John F. Kennedy (>, September 14, 1960

Tea Party Movement's New Target :The GOP

They feel they were had by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas), who urged them to stomach earmarks for the good of the party; by George W. Bush adviser Karl Rove, who urged them to stomach a massive expansion of education and Medicare for the good of the party; and by the rest of the Washington gang that collaborated in the largest expansion of government in their lifetime for the good of the party. Erick Erickson, founder and editor of the conservative RedState blog, said grass-roots activists are done listening. “Republicans are going to have to come our way,” he said, before going on to trash NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions and Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele for backing Scozzafava. Their “level of disingenuousness ... is disgusting,” Erickson said. His influential blog is now calling for Sessions to get the boot from the NRCC as a penalty for mishandling the race. Erickson’s bombast may seem overboard, but it captures the dep

Should Inmates Pay Rent ?
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  11-2-2009    4
"If the court determines that sheriffs have the authority " as part of their duties and responsibilities " to institute fees, there are millions of dollars in savings to the taxpayers as a result of inmates paying a very small portion of their fees and services," Assad said. Walker said the majority of inmates are indigent, so the money in their canteen accounts is sent to them by family members so they can buy basic items that are not supplied by the jails. To deduct money from those accounts is like placing an unlawful tax on prisoners' families, she said

America a Rude Nation? Debating Public Decency
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-30-2009    11
Experts point to a variety of reasons for the apparent fall in civil standards: 1) The recession has placed many under heavy stress 2) The rise of the internet has fostered confrontational and provocative communications in which people get used to saying things they may never once have dared to utter face-to-face. These may be conditions that allow rudeness to rear its ugly head, but they are not excuses for it. Rudeness is rooted in lack of civility. If you don’t respect other people’s ideas, opinions, equality as compared to yourself, or simply their right to exist, it will be easy for you to resort to rudeness towards that person and you will be considered uncivil. We have been losing our civility for a long time now and I believe it is due to a lack of respect for others and ourselves.

Should Kids Recite Flag Code Along With The Pledge Of Allegiance
ljsdesign
by ljsdesign  10-30-2009    4
The first Flag Code came during a time of similar national upheaval. In 1942, Congress passed the first resolution to endorse flag etiquette, including the proper way to fold, display and dispose of the flag. Massachusetts entered the debate in 1970, when Leominister teenager Valerie Goguen was sentenced to six months in jail for using an American flag patch on a pair of jeans. The Supreme Court overturned his conviction in the 1974 case Smith v. Goguen. Goguen still lives in Leominster, and is still adamant that the case is about love for the flag.

Univ of Mississippi journalism student arrested for taking photos
disenchantedcitizen

Disorderly conduct. The catch-all offense when a cop can’t legally arrest someone. What crime did this ‘lawbreaker’ really commit? Police say: interfering with police assisting someone to an ambulance, getting in the way of the fight, cursing at the officers. Besson said he did not curse at them until after they handcuffed him when he was telling them not to delete his photos. I don’t know if they were actually deleting any photos, the story doesn’t get into that aspect. But can we safely say they wouldn’t? And the two guys fighting? They were not arrested.
