POPSCan You Catch Up on Lost Sleep? The good news is that, like all debt, with some work, sleep debt can be repaid—though it won't happen in one extended snooze marathon. Tacking on an extra hour or two of sleep a night is the way to catch up. For the chronically sleep deprived, take it easy for a few months to get back into a natural sleep pattern, says Lawrence J. Epstein, medical director of the Harvard-affiliated Sleep HealthCenters. Go to bed when you are tired, and allow your body to wake you in the morning (no alarm clock allowed). You may find yourself catatonic in the beginning of the recovery cycle: Expect to bank upward of ten hours shut-eye per night. As the days pass, however, the amount of time sleeping will gradually decrease.

POPSThe Nativists are Restless It is easy to mock white-supremacist views as pathetic and to assume that nativism in the age of Obama is on the way out. The country has, of course, made considerable progress since the days of Know-Nothings and the Klan. But racism has a nasty habit of never going away, no matter how much we may want it to, and thus the perpetual need for vigilance.

POPSBathrooms Are The New Kitchen First kitchens were the new living room, the place where people lavished money and time and went to extremes to personalize and customize. Now, bathrooms are the new kitchens being done up in elaborate Victorian, Georgian and Art Deco themes. --Ann Rafalko

POPSGOP Hitman: Ken Starr's Moral Compass More: Furthermore, the parent of one of Epstein’s youngest victims is outraged that he could walk without registering as a sex offender and tells Radar, “What this man did to my daughter was horrible. He thinks that with all his money, his big deal lawyers, and his hired thugs, he can get away with anything. I pray that other young girls will never have to suffer like my daughter did. The whole world should know that he is a sex offender.” So, now that Ken Starr’s not lapping it up at the public trough, turning a simple investigation into a monster that only served political interests, it’s good to see him getting dirty and doing legitimate, if very disgusting, legal work. After all, even slimeballs need representation. Personally, if I’m a slimeball, though, there’s not a chance of me calling Starr.

POPSHolocaust Survivor Talks About Obama's Peace Prize Around the globe, solidarity actions are already being planned for the week of December 27th--find one near you and join in the action! You can also make a peace prayer flag. Send them to us and we will carry them on the march. The peace prayer flags are an easy and powerful way to make sure your voice is present at this historic event. Peace is not just making nice speeches, as President Obama did in Cairo when he told the Arab world that "we understand that the situation for the Palestinian people is intolerable" and that America would not turn its back on the legitimate Palestinian aspiration for justice and dignity. That is why I am asking you to help us "walk the talk" by supporting the Gaza Freedom March. With love for all humanity, Hedy Epstein and the CODEPINK team. Endorse the Gaza Freedom March! POPSGender can cost you in individual health insurance "Perhaps this is partly because women are more likely to seek preventive care, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. But this should make them better insurance risks. After all, they're proactively working to stay healthy. And isn't that exactly what insurers encourage people to do? "It doesn't make any sense," said Alice Wolfson of United Policyholders, a San Francisco-based advocacy group. "The insurers aren't assessing risk. They're assessing how much healthcare is used, even when it's preventive treatment." A spokesman for the California Department of Insurance said there were no regulations preventing gender-based pricing for individual policies."
