We Feel Fine
Djiezes
by Djiezes  9-27-2006
A visualized human feelings database... difficult to explain. Just clidk 'Open We Feel Fine' & check it out yourself At the core of We Feel Fine is a data collection engine that automatically scours the Internet every ten minutes, harvesting human feelings from a large number of blogs. Blog data comes from a variety of online sources, including We Feel Fine scans blog posts for occurences of the phrases "I feel" and "I am feeling" Once saved, the sentence is scanned to see if it includes one of about 5,000 pre-identified "feelings". This list of valid feelings was constructed by hand, but basically consists of adjectives and some adverbs. The full list of valid feelings, along with the total count of each feeling, and the color assigned to each feeling

Why sharing real knowledge is hard
lguinn
by lguinn  8-10-2006
This simple and direct article gave me real insight on why it is so hard to share knowledge. Even when people and organizations are open to sharing, exchanging significant knowledge is difficult in the abstract. Yet when we work together to solve a problem, the sharing becomes natural and effective.

Are Crowds Really Wise? Yes -- in the business world
lguinn
by lguinn  9-27-2006
I don't buy all of the "wisdom of crowds" stuff that I see on the 'net. Seems that it's become just a catchphrase. But here is some thought, based on the actual book, about what can work in a business context. Interesting, if idealistic.

The Idiocy of Crowds
lguinn
by lguinn  9-8-2006
Sure, I love to work in teams. But consensus is often a poor goal, and teams aren't smarter or more productive than individuals. Plus, this article supports my personal concern that we are drowning our individual viewpoints by adopting politically correct groupthink.
