A sad picture, isn't it? :-( Ralph Wenzel's wife said that "his neurologist had determined that on-field brain trauma was the probable cause of his Alzheimer’s-type dementia. In more lucid times Mr. Wenzel estimated his number of concussions as “more than I can count.” "Sylvia Mackey said that the cause of her husband’s frontal temporal dementia was less clear, but that his football collisions — including one headfirst impact with a goal post at full speed — were the likely culprit." "Mr. Wenzel’s dementia is far more apparent than Mr. Mackey’s. Mr. Wenzel walks gingerly, rarely mumbles more than a few nonsensical syllables before growing tired or tongue-tied, and cannot feed himself. He can offer no memories of his N.F.L. career, whether they are about the position he played (offensive line), his seasons (1966-73), his teams (the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Diego Chargers) or his teammates." Are brain-endangering sports worth the risk of early onset Alzheimers' in players?

POPS Epic Fail continued........about his bombings in the 60s is that they didn’t go far enough, who walked all over an American flag in 2001, and who said right before 9/11 that the very idea that America is a fair place “makes me want to puke”. Meanwhile, McCain’s campaign is launching a salvo of its own tonight - an ad reminding us all of just how tight the Obamessiah was with convicted felon and Chicago money man Tony Rezko. Aside from folks like Stanley Kurtz, who is currently running headfirst into an old-school Chicago stonewall over Obama’s work with Ayers in the Windy City... o major network or newspaper had any interest at all in either Rezko or Ayers. But Barack Obama opened up the Rezko story by yakking about John McCain’s houses and he opened up Ayers by questioning his basic character. POPSMan with one leg and no weapon eludes cops twice I'm thinking of that line in "The Fugitive," "It wasn't me it was the one armed man!" Handicapped people really are more capable than we give credit for, though this is not the kind of capability one would be proud of...
