Noises that indicate a defective drive
larryni
by larryni  1-25-2006
If you have been using computers for a few years, chances are that you've heard some of these noises before. I equate them to what you get to hear at the dentist's - they sound just as painful ;o)

Create your own search engines
larryni
by larryni  1-15-2006
This is a great service. Put together your own search engines by specifying between 1 and 25 sites - news, music, films, recipes... anything. It can even create Firefox search plugins so you can use your customised searches straight from your toolbar.

Man, I have enough trouble keeping track of my normal sized USB sticks. I don't think I'd own one of these for a long time before it would vanish.

Are we really dumbing down that much?

by larryni  1-9-2006
Things like this really tick me off. The same as ridiculous warning labels like "This product contains nuts" on a packet of peanuts, or "Caution, will be very hot after heating" on microvable soups. Well, duh!

Portable Apps
larryni
by larryni  1-7-2006
John Haller, who previously released the portable versions of Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird and other handy applications which run off a USB stick or CD-R on his personal site, has created a new community site dedicated to portable applications. There are already some interesting ones available, including the latest version of OpenOffice.org, FileZilla, Gaim, and NVU. Many more to come.

Try it once and you'll wonder how you ever managed without this one! Clipmarks doesn't seem to let you clip links containing javascript, so make sure you visit the page and drag the link to your Bookmarks toolbar.
