POPS4 arrested at Kent State anti-war march "I'm pleasantly astounded by these kids today," said Arthrell, a teacher in the Cleveland City Schools. "They're really making a stand for a better world ... This is democracy's finest moment, when people take the initiative to change something on their own." There is an eerie similarity between 1970 and 2008. While I searched for yesterdays clip, I found articles about Viet Nam casualties, civilian deaths, Nixon's crimes. Substitute Iraq for Viet Nam and it all seems the same.

POPSHeadline May 4, 1970 This reporter, who was with the group of students, did not see any indication of sniper fire, nor was the sound of any gunfire audible before the Guard volley. Students, conceding that rocks had been thrown, heatedly denied that there was any sniper. Gov. James A. Rhodes called on J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to aid in looking into the campus violence. A Justice Department spokesman said no decision had been made to investigate. At 2:10 this afternoon, after the shootings, the university president, Robert I. White, ordered the university closed for an indefinite time, and officials were making plans to evacuate the dormitories and bus out-of-state students to nearby cities.

POPSStudents protest, joined by Navy Vet. facing 3rd deployment "I'm sick and tired of my students being sent to die for reasons they're told are noble," McVay said. McVay said it's time for the government to stop deluding soldiers. "They are telling them that they are protecting us against terrorism that is coming to our shores. … They are lying," McVay said. There were anti-war and peace signs strewn across the quad beside an area that contained about 4,000 Popsicle sticks with the names of U.S. military personnel who have died as a result of the war.

POPSHill of Tara- illegal motorway going ahead
What spurred me to do this is that | just heard a report on the radio about a young woman called squeek (nickname we all have one)is in an underground tunnel , made as a protest to stop the undergoing of work on the m3 motorway to dublin- the capital city of Ireland which has seen massive growth with immigrant workers and the economic boom (celtic tiger) There are many people making massive journeys to and from work in dublin which is probably the main reason for the development there is a green party minister of the environment who promised to stop the before election who hasn't The european parliment seem to have deemed it illegal but to no avail The protestors obviously seem passionate about this major part of the countries heritage but I don't believe protesting is the only way I think persuasion of the public informing the public of the importance of the hill of tara possibly through literature and/or t.v making a programme focused on the issue would definitely attract

POPSDemonstrations planned for Rose Parade Yet some fear the protests could develop into an annual pattern that could tarnish the parade's shiny image. "If controversy like this diminishes the positive impact of the Rose Parade, it would be of concern," Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard said. Chinese Americans who claim they were victims of political or religious persecution in China are criticizing the $400,000 Beijing Olympics float. controversy like this diminishes the positive impact of the Rose Parade --- Pomp & Circumstance -- where are their priorities?

POPSLakota Sioux declare sovereign nation status Members of the American Indian Movement occupied parts of Pine Ridge in protest of the brutal killing of two of their own, the disgustingly mild prosecutions for those murders, and the beating of the mother of one of those two when she attempted to seek justice from the U.S. government. The AIM were seeking their rights under U.S. law and for the U.S. government to honor treaties with the American Indian that had been ignored for more than a century. It was a lawful - and a peaceful until attacked - protest. In response, the FBI fired almost 200,000 rounds at the protesters in an illegal show of force. The siege at Wounded Knee lasted 71 days. This was largely ignored by the U.S. population, due to media indifference

POPSHomeland Security confiscates Songwriter Hard Drive Take a guess at the nature of the songs. From the article: "And though Walla's laughing when he mentions Guantánamo, he's not joking when he adds that his record — which he's calling Field Manual — is "very political," packed with songs about issues both foreign ("The Score" tackles the war in Iraq) and domestic ("Everyone Needs a Home" deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; "Sing Again" is about so-called "morning after" pills and whether they're a form of contraception or abortion). Easy listening, this is not."
