Notice that 5 of the top 8 "living scientists" named are actually dead.

    Congress may investigate BCS legality
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  4-18-2008
I agree that the BCS is a stupid system, but Congress has much more important things to look into.

Dennis Hastert's seat goes to Democrat
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  3-9-2008
Oddly enough, this development may be a good argument for not putting Obama on the ticket if Clinton comes back to win. If the downstate areas of Illinois are going Democratic, the party really doesn't have to worry about Illinois' electoral votes in the fall.

Benazir Bhutto's Posthumous Report to Congress

    by kelvin273  1-1-2008
Granted, the document comes from Musharraf's political opponents, but given Pakistan's lackluster performance on the terror front, it makes you wonder.

I'm still trying to figure out why this is NASA's program, as opposed to the FAA.

    Are they underestimating Harry Reid?
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  12-20-2007
I wonder if Harry Reid is smarter than we've been giving him credit for. Conventional wisdom in Democratic circles holds that he's a wimp who folds every time Republicans even threaten a filibuster. But I wonder if it's possible that playing the helpless minority, especially on Iraq, might pay more political dividends than direct confrontation by sending the message that voters *must* give the Dems 60 votes in the Senate and the presidency if they want the war to end. I still think they should be more confrontational on domestic issues like the AMT, but this is food for thought.

Congress to (try to) give D.C. a voting representative
    kelvin273
    by kelvin273  3-8-2007
Personally, I don't see this going anywhere. I believe it would take a Constitutional Amendment to actually give D.C. voting representation. They should get a representative, but this bill isn't going to do it.

This one slipped in under the radar. This is the first I've heard about this major change to the makeup of Congress.

    Alcee Hastings seeks Intelligence chair

    by kelvin273  11-22-2006
I'm not sure about the facts of Hastings bribery case, but this would create a bad image for the Democrats. It could happen, too. Her support of Murtha for majority leader indicates that Pelosi values loyalty more than the perception of integrity.
