About me There is too much information. However, I will keep it brief for your sake (and mine). I have been an Amateur Radio Operator since 1985. About 10 years ago I upgraded to Amateur Extra. While not fully active now, I do enjoy keeping up with the goings on with our local clubs, and groups I belong to. My apologies for not considering working the VHF and UHF bands via repeaters or via Echolink as being truly active in the hobby. Until recently I was restricted from operating the low bands due to living quarters. However, I am now making plans for my return to the paddles. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but unless I am working CW on HF or CW/QRP or CW/QRP/M (yes, I am one of those “nuts” who have worked the paddles while driving @ 55 MPH+) on the low bands, I do not consider myself as truly “active”. Those “glory” days, when the original call was new and the HF bands were loaded with activity during the peak of the sunspot cycle are badly missed! My work as a UNIX Systems Engineer no longer requires much travel. Therefore I do hope to fill some of the time I now have available by returning to the segment of the bands which I enjoy so very much. However, I think CW/M is no longer an option. Opting out of CW/M may be more a matter of wisdom than lack of ability. In addition to the pleasure of the low bands, over the years, I have been an ARES/RACES member, President and Secretary of the Brookhaven National Laboratory Radio Club, served on t | |
