POPS"Go Kill Liberals" James Adkisson is sentenced to life in prison for opening fire on a Unitarian congregation and murdering 2 human beings. Many intuited that Adkisson's rampage was exactly the kind of rancid fruit that would inevitably take root in an American countryside thickly composted with two decades of hate radio bullshit. That suspicion was verified in the days that followed, when police searched Adkisson's apartment and found it filled with books and newsletters penned by Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and other right-wing hate talkers. Our radio hate talkers incited a man to commit an act of terrorism. Just sit a minute and take that in. And it doesn't sound all that dissimilar to a rant (minus the death threat) directed at me recently for posting a clip challenging conservative orthodoxy: "You and your socialist friends are America’s main enemy, more so than Al Qaeda."

POPSWhat the Inventor of the Flu Shot NOW Thinks of the Vaccine... What Can You Learn From History? The last time we trusted industry and their appointed government lackeys about the swine flu vaccine, the vaccine ended up killing 300 times more people than the flu itself! It was 1976, and an outbreak of swine flu supposedly threatened the lives of millions. But instead of the flu killing millions of people, it claimed ONE life, whereas the vaccine turned out to contain the real danger. Twenty five people died from severe pulmonary complications after receiving the swine flu vaccine, and about 500 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome were reported after vaccination. Some 300 claims were later filed by families of Guillain-Barre Syndrome victims who died from the disease.

POPSThe Moral Blindness of Nationalism From George Orwell's 1945 essay, Notes on Nationalism . I was inspired to come out of brief clip retirement by the state of the world we find ourselves in and by Ouyangwulong's inspiring comment . (New clippers, also consider this clip , which, like Orwell's quote, is depressingly apropos yet again.)

POPSFighting For The Welfare State This makes me really proud to be Danish. Anyway, why ARE we so happy? Well... we all know how we are all are in the grip of the worldwide economic crisis at the moment, right? Well, despite this, a huge number of Danes are now calling for the government to please let us pay more taxes! "Please raise taxes, so we can afford more!". :p .Now... I know this might seem odd and counter-intuitive to some, but please lend me your ear and I'll try to explain.... :) In a society like for example the US, where Wall Street reigns supreme and the gap between rich and poor just grows every day, how can it be expected that there is anything in it all, for the little guy? Capitalism is all good and fine, but money shouldn't be the goal, but merely the means. It's not about how much you have, but how much you give.

POPSThe Brutal Occupation We only hear about it when bombs start flying and the torn bodies multiply. Yet what is not mentioned much is that it is part of a constant, inhuman process. Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu and many others speaking for social justice have already spoken against it. http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/55BFEFC6-E369-416E-AF2E-680D5853FE6C/ Is this the legacy we want as Americans who believe in "all men are created equal"? Is this the example we want to give to the world?

POPSCancer From The Kitchen "I asked these doctors what they do in their own homes to reduce risks. They said that they avoid microwaving food in plastic or putting plastics in the dishwasher, because heat may cause chemicals to leach out. And the symposium handed out a reminder card listing “safer plastics” as those marked (usually at the bottom of a container) 1, 2, 4 or 5. It suggests that the “plastics to avoid” are those numbered 3, 6 and 7 (unless they are also marked “BPA-free”). Yes, the evidence is uncertain, but my weekend project is to go through containers in our house and toss out 3’s, 6’s and 7’s. "

POPSAmerican Election: An Illusion of Democracy A natural resources monopoly system was, thus, created in the US, and many parts of the world, based solely on capital gain and profit rather than the well being of human life. This power elite has gained total control over the American government and its departments, and dictates its laws and its foreign policies. In such a game the peoples’ choices are easily misled. The worst form of slavery is the one where slaves believe they are free. After the elections, there's still going to be massive problems to deal with. The "War on Terror", the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guantanamo, surveillance, torture, climate change, Palestine etc. Who ever wins, don't forget both candidates are slaves to the system. It's really only the people, who in the end, can change things. Demand change, no matter who ends up in that big ol' White House. Don't forget.

POPSAmerica Is a Toxic Dump Lobbying groups like the National Association of Manufacturers, headquartered in Washington, have fought tooth and nail for decades against any restrictions on the highly profitable production of disposable containers and packaging. And at the other end of the equation, the equally powerful waste-management companies (a multi-billion-dollar industry) work on the simple premise that more trash equals more cash.

POPSRepublicans Take Credit for Stimulus They Voted Against Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) boasted about the educational benefits of the recovery act, while Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) said his office "will do what we can to direct as much money as we can." Neither voted for the bill. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) joins in, praising the stimulus' "generous" incentives for home buyers on his Twitter feed: petehoekstra If you know of someone thinking of buying first home, now may be the time.Stimulus incentive is very generous!Up to 8k!Check it out. After insisting last Friday that the recovery bill "would have exploded our national debt without providing meaningful job growth," Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) toured construction sites in his district yesterday, touting funds that would come from the stimulus bill. "This is a classic example of a "shovel-ready' project," Lance said after the tour.

POPSRepublicans Play a New Fear Card The same governors that never question the building of atomic bombs, napalm, biological, and other banned U.S. terror weapons in their jurisdictions can be expected to make hypocritical political hay out of this issue.
