It's Official: eBay buys Stumbleupon for $75 million
    adamc
    by adamc  5-31-2007    5
First it was rumored at $40-45 million , then almost inked and now it's official. Will be fascinating to watch how they integrate it -- the Skype-Stumbleupon combo could be a compelling experience.

Wow. Definitely a departure for Ebay. It seems like more and more players are starting to jump in to scarf up smaller web 2.0 startups.

Innovation and capitalism are amazing forces in dealing with global dynamics. We've got sky high oil prices, instability in the region that oil comes from and a global warming threat that many attribute to our use of fossil fuels. So what do we do? We innovate....this is just the beginning!!

    IAD, Internet Addiction Disorder
    balthazarus
    by balthazarus  11-12-2008    5
"US academics have found that more than one in eight Americans showed at least one possible sign of problematic internet use, with some web surfers already starting to seek medical help." "The Chinese manual would be the first of its kind in the world, adding to the controversy over whether compulsive internet use should be officially viewed as a mental disorder." I think that eventually we will have to recognize it as an added capability of the human, the netting/wired sense or a sort. certainly not a disorder.

Why do people overbid in auctions?
    einbar
    by einbar  12-1-2008    2
"The art of auctioning is an ancient one. The concept of competitively bidding for goods has lasted from Roman times, when spoils of war were divvied up around a planted spear, to the 21st century, when the spoils of the loft are sold through eBay. But despite society's familiarity with the concept, people who take part in auctions still behave in a strange way - they tend to overbid, offering more money than what they actually think an object is worth".

Cuil: Search engine to ravel Google Launches
    shandora
    by shandora  7-29-2008    4
For one, Cuil has an impressive pedigree with its three founders: Tom Costello of IBM's WebFountain project, plus Anna Patterson and Russell Power of Google's TeraGoogle project, Google's massive search index. Cuil also counts former AltaVista founder Louis Monier -- who later went to eBay and then Google -- as part of the team. These people know search. In particular, they know on-the-firing line, heavy duty, industrial strength search. Not only that, they're unleashing what appears to be a comprehensive service that anyone can use. Indeed, Google already did a blog post in reaction to Cuil and its size claims on Friday, before Cuil even launched or those claims became public. If Google's paying that much attention, then anyone should.

Reid Tries to Take Credit for LetterAuction!!
    davboz
    by davboz   10-19-2007    8
Sounding as if it was HIS idea, this little boy in an old man's body talks about how he and the Clear Channel boss ("Mark Mays and I")never thought the letter would generate such high amount and volume of bids($ 2,100,000). He speaks as if the fact that it is HIS letter with the signatures of 41 Democrats on it,("We were short on time or WE would have gotten more names on it") is the reason why people are bidding on it. Harry!! Your attempts to HORN IN, while conceding backhand kudos to Rush for helping out, are going to taint the whole project and undermine the value of the letter, you self-important over-inflated little rag doll. The value of the letter is in the semi-facetious yet realistic view of your snitty little attempts to suppress speech and your merit-less, misguided attacks.
