    PBS Frontline: "Sick Around America"
    Spiritualmonkey
    by Spiritualmonkey  7-29-2009    3
"Every doctor I meet says he's underpaid. I've yet to meet a hospital executive who thinks he or she can operate on less. I have yet to meet a patient who is willing to sacrifice care. So we have this $2.2 trillion system, and I haven't met anybody in any of the stakeholders that's willing to take less. And until we're willing to have that conversation, we're just sort of nibbling around the edges." People who think that Americans don't wait on lines, don't get denied coverage after paying their premiums, don't get their coverage rescinded right when they're about to incur huge costs, don't go bankrupt from medical bills, don't DIE because some corporate bean-counter denied their claim... You're either unaware of the facts, or lying. We spend more than any other country on the planet for healthcare, and are ranked somewhere around 50th in health outcomes. That's an undisputed fact. Corporate healthcare is a failure. Social insurance I can't be any worse.

The Nightmare of Rationing in Oregon
    merrie
    by merrie  8-24-2009    1
We as a nation can’t afford to learn the same lesson that Oregon is learning the hard way. A brief look at the state’s rationing policy demonstrates how out of whack the Oregon Health Services Commission’s medical priorities are. For example, under the OHSC directive, a person in need of an emergency appendectomy (prioritized 84th) would be denied that treatment before an individual in need of treatment for “tobacco dependence” (ranked 6th). The state’s prioritization database reads like a case study in medical prioritization turned on its head. Like those pushing preventive care in the current national debate, administrators say the rationing program’s foundational focus is on prevention rather than on actual medical conditions and emergencies. This was borne out of a desire to save the government more money in the long run. However, as always happens when bureaucrats and elected officials are left to work out the nuts and bolts of a program, the determinations . . .

    The Barack Obama Record
    merrie
    by merrie  10-12-2008    6
Not Much of a Record And What There is, Obama’s Made Much of it Impossible to Access THE OBAMA REPORT Socialism is so much a part of his ideology that he is incapable of finding free market solutions to any of our problems. Private sector solutions don’t even enter his thinking. The policy areas that we need reforms the most: heath care, education, energy, and the financial markets, Obama is either an obstacle or he is proposing more government; it is certainly not a reform agenda. Obama is intent at shutting down all dissent. Obama vs. WGN-AM Over and over again, Obama has lied to Americans about how "the rich" don’t pay enough taxes; indeed, he is so steeped in his hard left ideology he has never bothered to check the stats produced each year by the IRS. Here they are: Who Pays Income Taxes? See Who Pays What For Tax Year 2006 Percentiles Ranked by AGI AGI Threshold on Percentiles http://docstalk.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-report.html

Over Two-Hundred Economists Against The Stimulus
    merrie
    by merrie  1-30-2009    4
Cato has just published a full-page ad in the New York Times with the names of some 200 economists, including some Nobel laureates and other highly respected scholars, who “do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance” — contrary to widespread claims that “Economists from across the political spectrum agree” on a massive fiscal stimulus package. Of course, many economists don’t like to sign joint statements, so this is only a fraction of stimulus opponents in the profession. Greg Mankiw pointed to a few noted skeptics last week: More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan's "lost decade" in the 1990s. Read the text of the ad in HTML with additional signers http://www.cato.org/fiscalreality

    Author Chopra creates new Jesus
    Eaglewings
    by Eaglewings  3-28-2008    2
Number three on the New York Times best seller list does not surprise me. People would much rather believe all these convoluted offerings rather than the truth that a loving God actually cared enough about our pitiful selfs that He sent His only Son to die so that we might live. Now I do not know about you but my best intentions has never led me anywhere but to despair. No matter how hard I tried I could never measure up to be GOOD enough by the so called enlightened crowd so I guess I would be doomed to forever live in despair save for the Lord Jesus Christ who came into my life and rescued me from my despair. Now I know who I belong to and therefore I am no longer looking to the enlightened crowd for my self worth. Perhaps Chopra and all his adherents would be better served to read the 'Good Book'.

National Gaps Between Rich & Poor - USA is No. 3
    thinkingblue
    by thinkingblue  10-19-2009    2
When I saw this headline, I thought for sure the ole USA would be at the top of the list but NO there really are greedier nations (people) residing on this Earth. Though only 2, for USA hit the number 3 slot. It's a pity that the human race has yet to understand that we are all one, all traveling in the same direction of unknowing. Yet material-wise we struggle to have a one-upmanship on one another; a need of sorts to look down your nose at those financially beneath you due to hard luck or heritage. The visualization of this gap is hardest to stomach. With architecturally handsome buildings on one side of the picture (You can envision those within these structures looking out their ivory tower windows at the ants below.) and poor people, on the other side, in fetal-like positions, huddled against buildings to protect themselves from the elements, cold, hungry and hopeless. It’s the food-chain, only the winners aren’t the fittest but the greediest.
