POPSI click, therefore I am: Toward outsourcing our identity There are two complementary tendencies on the Net: one which encourages keeping multiple personalities, and the other which tends to gather them in a central personality. For instance, a survey said that most people on Twitter use more than one account and a site lets users create profiles for the different facets of their personality. We can set different email addresses (sometimes called “identities”) in email programs. Other tendencies are toward reunification, as in OpenID, a “way to use a single digital identity across the Internet.” Furthermore, many social sites we could be part of, like BlogCatalog and MyBloglog will show the identity we choose to when we visit blogs, leaving a trace of our path.

POPSScience Never Stops :-) This is an entertaining and fairly level headed “what the future will bring” piece. It covers the promise and perils of a pretty diverse set of topics: nuclear power, space travel, power transmission, aviation, food production, urban growth, race relations and even (sort-of) outsourcing.

POPSFive Signs of Job Burnout These physical signs are common indicators of job stress, and demonstrate that this can turn into a physical problem. If you are experiencing these symptoms, it's time to make some changes. You can start by talking to your boss or someone in your human resources department about how you can confront the problem together by redefining deadlines, delegating or outsourcing a project or two. In her book "Stress Management for Busy People," Carol A. Turkington recommends taking these proactive steps: # Learn to say no. # Reevaluate your goals. # Reduce your commitments at work and at home. # Learn stress management skills. # Get plenty of rest and eat a healthy diet. Finally, give yourself a break. This means taking your vacation days, no matter how important you job is, and taking little breaks every day to re-group, re-energize and unwind. Remember, if you don't take care of yourself in the office, you work will suffer and your health may pay the price, too.

POPSIndian Artists Free to Express Their Own Culture: Virgin Comics After decades of outsourcing and emulating the West, artists finally feel free to do what they want and share their culture with the rest of the world. "You can't handle that kind of freedom all of a sudden. So it takes about three to four months of time to adjust." "Because it's been built upon an outsourcing model...we do a tremendous amount of unlearning."

More: Nearly a third of the companies and joint ventures on the Top 100 are based outside the United States. These foreign contractors, along with the $20 billion in contracts awarded to the unidentified companies, account for about 45 percent of all funds obligated to the Top 100. According to David Walker, the comptroller general of the United States, the outsourcing of government has escalated across the board over the past five years, although oversight of the process has shrunk during this same period. In an interview with the Center for Public Integrity, Walker noted particular problems with military contracting. "We have identified about 15 systemic, longstanding acquisition and contracting problems that exist within the Defense Department—which is the single biggest contractor within the U.S. government—that we are still not making enough progress on," said Walker, who heads the Government Accountability Office. "I mean, this stuff isn't rocket science."

POPSHow about a Blackwater IPO? Um, when did we the U.S.begin outsourcing its military needs? I guess you don't need a draft when you can hire an army. Seems like you don't really need to have accountability either. Maybe there should be a Blackwater IPO on Wall Street. Then we could really show off the benefits of war and capitalism.

POPSShocker: Obama-Run General Motors To Start Outsourcing Car Manufacturing What this illustrates is that the problem with the domestic auto industry all along has been exorbitant labor costs. Or, put more bluntly, the problem has been the UAW. In order to become solvent going forward General Motors most find a cheaper labor pool so that it can compete with its foreign counterparts. That means getting away from the UAW in Mexico, among other places. In summary, we could have saved ourselves billions in bailouts and kept GM’s jobs in America if the Obama administration hadn’t insisted in essentially taking the company over so that the UAW’s labor contracts wouldn’t be re-negotiated in bankruptcy. Now that the UAW has been so artfully protected by Obama, GM has to go overseas to remain profitable. And if Obama blocks this move toward outsourcing (and he can’t be that stupid as even he knows he’s now tied to GM’s future), the company will collapse.

POPSMiddle Class Poverty Soon, we will all be added to the list of poverty as what we know as the "Middle Class" disappears altogether. If you think the 21st century Robber Barons plan to stop this massive wage degradation, you better hang on to your britches. Like the wealthy Robber Barons of Mexico, our corporations won't stop the next added 20 million ILLegal migrants -- nor will they stop the insourcing, offshoring and outsourcing of jobs.

POPS United States Motors 40-odd years of competition from Japan didn’t do it for GM management or its unions. I hope USM CEO Obama or Geithner, whichever one is running that show, has a better idea, but Obama’s demand for a more “lean, mean and competitive” auto industry notwithstanding, I don’t see either of those guys coming up with a new Camry or getting the loyal workforce out for jumping jacks in the morning.
