POPS"Invisible" people She got the idea for her unusual art from the increasing use of "Big Brother" surveillance. She said: "I'd like people to consider what it means to let the government control our daily lives. "When we are controlled we hand over our individual responsibilities to the state. I wanted to make a suit for the non-criminal citizen whose house is being watched 24 hours by street surveillance cameras. I'm also responding to a wish to disappear."

POPSWhy Are We So Bad at Spotting Lies? By nature, we are a rather trustful species and (unless you lie or detect lies for a living) chances are good that you harbor false assumptions of what deceitful behavior looks like. So says famous psychologist Richard Wiseman in this summary of his research into the universal, cross-cultural trait of human deception. Among other things, Wiseman shows that by the time they are five, even our own kids can fool us with ease and abandon! The simple fact is that the real clues to deceit are in the words that people use, not the body language.

POPSAnother Bush Lie: On Torture From the article: "Mr. Gonzales approved the legal memorandum on “combined effects” over the objections of James B. Comey, the deputy attorney general, who was leaving his job after bruising clashes with the White House. Disagreeing with what he viewed as the opinion’s overreaching legal reasoning, Mr. Comey told colleagues at the department that they would all be “ashamed” when the world eventually learned of it."

POPSIf Fox 'News' was around to Report History
Yeah it would have been HisStory! ;-) Just like it is today! :-0 ! "Fair and balanced" if one equates reading lies off a teleprompter as 'informative and equitable' ... Who loves lies? Who cherishes lies? Who finds lies comforting & pleasing? Who is the father of lies anyway? So who do liars serve? And what about those who serve up or devour lies, thereby supporting, spreading deciets like a virus ... in the traffic of lies, does it matter if one originates the deception? If they promulgate false witness, support harm of those who have been falsely accused, is that not complicity? And how can one serve God, objectively, if they love lies, spread lies, support liars... ??? I think those who play with themselves and others are unwitting dupes who decieve themselves BEFORE they decieve anyone else. Just my opinion. And they serve evil, just like every liar before them. Personally I cannot stand lies. Or liars. MSM or otherwise. Thou shalt NOT is clear... lies, false witn

POPSIt's Not All About You Most people are too busy worrying about their own personal problems to notice yours. In a 2000 study, Gilovich and colleagues reported that students also badly overestimated how well their own gaffes and clever arguments were noticed by others in discussion groups. "The fact is that others do not notice us nearly as much as we think they do," Gilovich said. Contrary to every instinct, our nervousness, our sadness, even our lies are largely lost on most observers, he said.

POPSThe Invisible Government Rupert Murdoch has predicted that there will be just three global media giants, and his company will be one of them. It's becoming increasingly difficult to check information via independent sources, because there doesn't seem to be that many left IMO. If all we have is official sources to get our information, they can pretty much tell us what ever they want...and they do. The more they watched, the less they knew—Danny Schecter

POPSVietnam: 40 yearsago: Iraq: 40 years from now: Iran? "Hours after Japan's surrender in World War II, Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh declares the independence of Vietnam from France. The proclamation paraphrased the U.S. Declaration of Independence in declaring, "All men are born equal: the Creator has given us inviolable rights, life, liberty, and happiness!" and was cheered by an enormous crowd gathered in Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square" Lest you forget. There is so much Americans still cannot know of the truth of Vietnam, wiped from the history books. too painful to know the truth even now. Check who was present for the Deceleration of Independence!!!

POPSChimps console each other to reduce stress after fights "When Fraser looked at who was consoling whom, he found that acts of consolation were more likely to happen between individuals with valuable relationships. Chimps tended to comfort peers who groomed them frequently, shared food with them or gave them a hand in their own conflicts. Other factors like how closely related they were had no such effects. "

POPSA perspective on perspective In 1988, psychologists Shelly Taylor and Jonathon Brown published an article making the somewhat disturbing claim that positive self-deception is a normal and beneficial part of most people’s everyday outlook. They suggested that average people hold cognitive biases in three key areas: a) viewing themselves in unrealistically positive terms; b) believing they have more control over their environment than they actually do; and c) holding views about the future that are more positive than the evidence can justify. The typical person, it seems, depends on these happy delusions for the self-esteem needed to function through a normal day. It’s when the fantasies start to unravel that problems arise.

POPSDr.MartinLutherKing: A Time to Break Silence. Swap Iraq for Vietnam.
"In the North, where our bombs now pummel the land, and our mines endanger the waterways, we are met by a deep but understandable mistrust. In Hanoi are the men who led the nation to independence against the Japanese and the French, the men who sought membership in the French commonwealth and were betrayed by the weakness of Paris and the willfulness of the colonial armies. It was they who led a second struggle against French domination at tremendous costs, and then were persuaded at Geneva to give up, as a temporary measure, the land they controlled between the 13th and 17th parallels. "After 1954 they watched us conspire with Diem to prevent elections which would have surely brought Ho Chi Minh to power over a united Vietnam, and they realized they had been betrayed again. "When we ask why they do not leap to negotiate, these things must be remembered. Also, it must be clear that the leaders of Hanoi considered the presence of American troops in support of the Diem regime to h

POPSReid Tries to Take Credit for LetterAuction!! Sounding as if it was HIS idea, this little boy in an old man's body talks about how he and the Clear Channel boss ("Mark Mays and I")never thought the letter would generate such high amount and volume of bids($ 2,100,000). He speaks as if the fact that it is HIS letter with the signatures of 41 Democrats on it,("We were short on time or WE would have gotten more names on it") is the reason why people are bidding on it. Harry!! Your attempts to HORN IN, while conceding backhand kudos to Rush for helping out, are going to taint the whole project and undermine the value of the letter, you self-important over-inflated little rag doll. The value of the letter is in the semi-facetious yet realistic view of your snitty little attempts to suppress speech and your merit-less, misguided attacks.

POPSNo extra military Handout for Israel from USA 'President Bush assured us last week that things are under control. “The fundamentals of our economy are strong,” Bush told a press conference August 9, the day after the three French banks shut their mortgage funds, sending the New York stock market tumbling in response. “I am told there is enough liquidity in the system to enable markets to correct,” the president added. That is, Bush believes there’s enough cash to cover the current failures. The market is saying there isn’t.' This input from Bush frightens me more than anything with his record for LIES and DECEPTION. Inevitably this must be a lie. Now is it a deliberate lie or will it turn out to be a lie in time, one that he isn't yet certain is a lie. GOD HELP US ALL.

POPSBorat - The story of Vanilla Face The hotel manager ("Vanilla Face") who was accosted by Borat was friends with this blogger, who shares his story. I have to confess being disturbed by the amount of deception the film crew used to persuade the manager to participate in the film, especially since the guy was dealing with the loss of his father. POPSSenators tried to suppress CIA testimony in Plame affair Jim Marcinkowski is a former CIA official who trained with Valerie Plame. He wanted to testify before Senate committees about the exposure of Plame. After he testified before the Republican-led Senate Select Intelligence committee, Pat Roberts declared his testimony secret, so he couldn't testify before the Democratic Policy Committee. Marcinkowski, the lawyer and deputy city attorney, was stunned. "I sat on the park bench, in a daze. I didn't know what the hell to do. Now it hits me, that is why the Senate Select Intelligence Committee had scheduled their testimony for the day before the Senate Democratic public hearing. Until that happened we didn't hear shit from the Senate Select Intelligence Committee. They slapped the secrecy thing on it, that was their intention," to try to prevent Valerie's CIA colleagues from testifying publicly about what had happened to her, and why it was a betrayal of everyone in the CIA.
