POPSHuman Rights Watch report on Venezuela: An echo of US propaganda This concerns me. HRW obviously has a strong reputation but this article questions its report on Venezuela. This article is quite convincing in its dealings with the HRW report. I sympathise with Latin American countries in the USA's backyard having once done a stint as a brigadista in Nicaragua in 1985

POPSAn example of a civilizing trend in UK cities Well done Norwich councillors, standing up to the officers who often seem to be against these schemes. I believe that the vociferous motoring lobby gives them more hassle than they can cope with. This is a long term process to change the culture. There are very popular tv programmes which unfortunately encourage the treatment of the public highway as a sports arena.

POPSLondon's mayor says Britain is not broken The current political mood of Britain is irrational. The government is suffering from the Mother of all Swings of the Pendulum. I think time is the only healer here. On September 28th one international commentator said that "Gordon Brown is the star of the UN". Yet he is villified in his own country, explain on one side of A4.

POPSOxford Union debate on nuclear weapons David Lange, prime minister puts a devastating case against nuclear weapons. This argument is I believe once again very relevant. He argued that New Zealand had no nuclear enemies. The situation now, with the fall of the soviet union is that we are imagining them. The whole speech is presented verbatim.
