POPSCall Congress Back to Vote on Drilling August recess?? Forget it! They've stuffed the business of the people for months and are stonewalling even now. Put it up for a vote....or shut up. This has nothing to do with drilling for oil; it has to do with the continuation of the obstructing of this Bush Administration. If it were a Democrat in the Presidency, progress would have already be made.

POPSPickens' words more than just wind I heard this man's advertisement and thought "This is what we're looking for." Big Oil is criticized for their massive profits. This man has made $$ and wants to use it to reinvest in "renewable energy". He makes sense. When the Sierra Club supports him you know he must be on the right track. Hopefully Democrats in Congress will recognize a win/win solution and even encourage others.

POPSPelosi blocks vote on Bush request to lift ban... This is so typical of Pelosi and her fellow Democrats in Congress. She won't even allow it to be voted on!! She will do whatever it takes to continue to stonewall this Administration...no, the democratic system...with her refusal to allow the process to move and bring this to a vote. Why? Because she would lose! FTA: "In the House, the power rests in the speaker, the power of recognition, of setting the agenda. ... Very different rules,"
4
POPSCongress ratings plunge in poll Reid's comment speak volumes!! The Dems have completely refused to co-operate with the President whenever possible...they preferred to investigate and undermine the Administration. Talk about a 'do-nothing Congress'! Rasmussen had the percentage at 9.
6
POPSOil Falls More Than $4 on Report of Unexpected Supply Increase So, the President's little trip abroad, his decision to lift the moratorium, the citizenry's insistence on "Drill, Drill, Drill" might be turning this thing around a little. Now if Congress would get on board and join the rest of us *little people* instead of sticking with it's "it's Bush's fault" I think the price would fall like a rock.
8
POPSBush to lift executive ban on offshore drilling At last! A tiny step and only one. I hope America's industries are making all-out efforts to finally deal with our energy-producing block. Follow all the avenues and options to end our begging for energy. Think of what it might mean for our foreign policy options.
7
POPSSenate OKs promotions of Iraqi generals Petraeus certainly deserves the promotion but I hope it's not too soon for him to leave his post. Everyone has a propensity to change things around once they start to go well.
6
POPSCongressional Performance Single digits, huh? Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid promised so much...but the final number says it all. Most of us believe that Congressmen & women are more interested in promoting their careers rather than dealing with issues. No one called me, but I couldn't agree more. I saw Sen. Warner talking about lowering the speed limit to 55mph again. What an embarrassment!

POPSWorld is 'effeminate' thanks to men's fashion... I don't know anything about the men in Kazakhstan, but I'm sure noticing it in our Western culture. On change-over at my last tennis match, two young mothers were talking about the horrors of *violence* in children's books at their local library but laughing that their little boys enjoyed playing dress-up with their little sisters' princess outfits. I'm sure I'll get a lot of flack, but give me a boy who wants to play dodge ball, king-of-the-mountain, search for bugs and toads, etc...any day. I believe a lot of men are having an identity crisis and I can't blame it on the fashion industry. I say "what fashion"?
6
POPSConfidence Poll Well, it's not surprising. I am pleased that, even though it's lower than I would have expected, the military was at the top. Congress is, indeed, in the very pit.
7
POPSThe Drill-Nothing Congress They deserve all the scorn they receive. I'm hoping that as the prices rise the American people will realize where they blame lies for this completely unnecessary blight on our economy.
7
POPSDrivers Say US Should Drill for Oil on Federal Lands The hypocrisy is amazing. The US government (?) wants other countries to drill for more oil in their land but we can't touch our own. Drill! And while we're doing it, Congress needs to free up the fast tracks for nuclear, solar, coal and wind. Frankly, I don't care what the rest of the world is paying for a gallon of gas. That's for *their* people to address. If Congress wants to ruin our economy completely...they'll do nothing. And a ruined American economy is a very serious problem for the rest of the World.
7
POPSFuelist Democrats Amen! Amen! This Congress, whether Reps. or Dems. have brought us to this point. As a matter of fact, it's been avalanche-ing towards this point for over a decade. I hope people are as hoppin' mad as I am....and I don't drive no SUV.
6
POPSWhere were you on Sept. 11th (video) (can't seem to get clipsmarks to work on this. click the link.) I remember exactly where I was and when the realization that this was not an errant airliner swept over me. It helps me to be reminded because, since we lived so far away, it was like a movie. I remember Congress, standing on it's step, all holding hands and singing "God Bless America".
4
POPSOPEC strangling American economy I can't really agree with this. Our Congress has done more to "strangle" us than any foreign agency. IF we allow this to continue, we will be the object of our enemies manipulation and blackmail. Like every other *serious* issue, Congress has sat on it's hands for several decades...promoting band aid solutions instead of acting responsibly to make us energy independent. Lay the blame where it belongs; at the Halls of Congress.
2
POPSCongress Holds Troops Hostage, Budget Director Says AND when the President vetoes this bill, who will get blamed for not supporting the troops? Congress, again, shows their utter contempt for the American process, it's military, our tax dollars, the intelligence of it's citizens. Blackmail, pure and simple. If Congress does not want America troops in Iraq then take the stand, vote, and deal with the consequences. But they won't because they KNOW it is not in our national interests to do so; but they will play politics with every ounce of treachery they can muster against this Administration, our military personnel, and the responsible use of OUR money.
4
POPSWho Is Really Responsible For the High Prices You Pay for Gasoline? When will the American people stand up and say enough!? Why weren't we insistent *before* we arrived at this point? So typical of human nature...let's just wait till things are really bad and then we *have* to do something. FTA: "It's wake-up time for America. Maybe we should investigate the blame-throwing investigators in Congress." And a more "blame-throwing" Congress I have never seen.
4
POPSSenate Democrats Offer Energy Plan Amid Price Surge Now, why would they want to "...consolidate previous failed attempts"? :~( No real solutions here; just bandaids, blaming, and blustering. How long will it be before Congress gets the message that WE are serious about these energy problems? Just like everything else, our legislative branch of government talks forever and all the while accomplishing nothing until it's a Crisis? Then they look to their typical scapegoats instead of looking towards themselves.
2
POPSGas Comparisons..... (sigh) When will the US act? How long will Congress ignore it's citizens? Do you know China is in Cuba sucking out our oil off the Atlantic coast? I support ALL efforts towards energy independence.
6
POPSDemocrats Blaming Each Other For Failures That seems about right. What statesmen we have. s/off Both houses of Congress have procrastinated for months and then dare blame each other? They and their committees were so busy with PlameGate, S. Libby, bringing Patraeus to *testify*, investigations of all sorts, etc...and now that the end has come (Christmas vacation and they want to go home) they wail against the other because they accomplished nothing. Well, what do they expect?
8
POPSCanadian Muslim Teen's Dad Charged in Her Murder...... I don't want to make this too much of a blanket statement, but I believe this is where Eastern and Western cultures clash. The Judeo-Christian *traditional* sensibilities will not accept a persons *right* to kill another person. Whether for religious or cultural reasons. A "teen issue"....maybe. We all have them if we have teens. Murdering them should warrant an arrest no matter their *crimes*. The poor mother. This is pitiful.
3
POPSHill Briefed on Waterboarding in 2002 Interesting though not unexpected. The article recognizes that the briefing was still very close to Sept. 11 and the atmosphere and rancor has since changed. But still, I'm convinced that people get together for these private briefings, secret conferences, intelligence reports....recognize the seriousness of the issues...then come out cherry-picking whatever it is that they want to use for their own political agendas. Then the American people are left scratching their heads wondering who to believe and what is *really* going on.
2
POPSAll the Makings of a Carnival, Except the Fun That I found this in the NYT is interesting....Reid acting the fool and clown. It *is* a very sad state of affairs, but signs of our times. Our Country is significantly divided, politically, and Congress is simply fleshing that out. It also amazes me that candidates can dogmatically make sweeping claims about what all they're going to do "if only I get elected"...and then they're shocked and incensed to discover that they are not as powerful or persuasive as they thought they were. Petty, spiteful, bitter, arrogant, boastful....a pock on both their Houses. Did I mention 'petty'?
2
POPSHarry Reid's Deficit of Leadership BDS....I guess it will continue until the next Conservative President is sworn into office. When C. Rangel can be bipartisan...well anyone can if they have the best interests of everyone in mind.
4
POPSJefferson Accused of Two More Schemes When are they going to get on with this and convict or clear? Is there something *political* going on here? If this had been anyone other than a Democrat, it would have been over.
2
POPSReid to Keep Senate in Session to Prevent Recess Appointments If only Reid would actually *require* Senators to stay "in session"!!!! A mere formality? "...unsavory recess appointments"??? To whom? They've been in gridlock-mode forever. So the Executive Branch is suppose to compromise and it be *even-steven*? The Administration gets a few, the Legislative Branch gets a few? Never before, I think. If they would do their job during the session, there wouldn't be a need for "recess" appointments; vote 'yes'/vote 'no'. End of problem.

POPSClinton Defends Wife on Licenses I would expect nothing less than for a husband to defend his wife. He owes her. But does anyone else have a really bad feeling about this??......a former President running interference for his wife...if she should win. Others have talked about a dictatorship, an *imperial* Presidency, a dynasty... This doesn't bother anyone else? Education and Healthcare reform? Are these really the most pressing problems that America is facing? I will not deny that they are important to all of us. I blame a *do-nothing* Congress on this. They've had all summer...all session!! to address and seek solutions to these very important, fundamental problems; but they've been busy with V. Plame, blocking Supreme Court judges and AGs, questioning Gen. Petraeus' military *independence*, the effectiveness of the "Surge", the patriotism of Rush Limbaugh, etc..... Mr. Clinton is an impeached President. His wife's campaign finances are in question. Huh?? Is there sanity here?

POPSBetter Numbers And this from the Washington Post. I'm sure there will be no apologizes to the General from his assailants in Congress. Some good news.
