POPSGoverment Assistance for Libby Montana The Senate health care bill includes expanding Medicare to those people harmed by exposure to asbestos from the vermiculite mine in Libby, Montana. I, for one, am glad to see the government finally moving to assist these people who have been so devastated by this problem.

POPSNY Senate Stalemate is Over - For Now Word of the discussion came after unusually chaotic 24 hours in Albany. Gov. David A. Paterson named Richard Ravitch as lieutenant governor on Wednesday, but early Thursday, Senate Republicans received a temporary restraining order that sought to prevent Mr. Ravitch from taking office. The Republicans got the restraining order from a judge in Nassau County. Paterson administration officials, however, had already rushed to swear in Mr. Ravitch about 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn. Thursday morning, in introducing Mr. Ravitch, 76, a Democratic lawyer with a career in government dating back a half-century, Mr. Paterson said his choice would not take action until the court issue is resolved, although he said he believed the appointment was legal.

POPSMore Drama in NY Senate What a bunch of buffoons; what fun! (Unless of course you want your legislature to actually accomplish something)

POPSDay to of NY Senate Political Theater A defiant Mr. Espada said he would enter the chamber for a session on Thursday even if the Democrats kept the doors bolted shut. As he was being trailed by a large group of reporters down a corridor in the Capitol, Mr. Espada pulled a gold key out of his pocket, grinned and said: “I’ve got the key. I’ve got the key.” Nearby, amid the crush of camera crews, a clown dispatched to the Capitol by The New York Post added to the carnival atmosphere.

POPSPolitical Theater - NY Senate Always interesting to watch drama play out over parliamentary procedure. As my old law school professor use to say "procedure is everything."

POPSVermont Legalized Gay MArriage With Veto Override This is a huge win! A true day to celebrate. At least two House Members who voted no on the original passage of the bill changed their votes and overrode the veto. Again I say it is time on Washington to do the same.

POPSMinnisota Senate Recount day 60 I didn't realize that the Sec. of State could not issue a certificate of election until legal avenues are exhausted. Looks like the Senate will begin work with 98 members.

POPSNew York Senate may not take up gay marriage issue next session Looks like there is a leadership fight that may derail the prommiss made to the gay community that if they gained a majority the Democrats in the Senate would hold a vote on the issue. I'm ready to have this vote in my home state of Washington. Lets get it out there and see who supports and who opposes this legislation. Then if we win in the legislature we can work on defending the probable referendum that would be filed against the bill. I think the gay community is ready to go out there and orginize, to speak to their neighbors and firends, to do what it takes to pass this now not next year. the loss on Prop.8 has started an engagement with the process and now is the time, now is the time.

POPSAlaska Senate Race - To Close To Call With the Senate Republican minority leader stating that "there is zero chance that a senator with a felony conviction would not be expelled from the Senate." What will Gov. Palin do with the apointment?
