POPSUnearthing clues of catastrophic earthquakes There is still much to be known about ancient earthquakes. The instrumental record for seismology is short, going back 100 years. The historical seismology record is a much longer, including written documentation such as news accounts and diaries, which vary widely by culture and region. The archeoseismic record serves as the bridge between historical accounts and the paleoseismic record of Earth’s history.

POPSIraq: From One Dictator to Another? "Over a thousand Iraqis got killed and more than that number wounded just for a game of chess between warlords," Mohammad Alwan, a lawyer in Baghdad, told IPS. "All of them call for dissolving militias while they keep militias of their own. Most of those in power in the government are militia leaders."

POPSSpeaking about a "New Deal" again A highly controversial point by Howard Zinn. I'd really love to learn what our fellow American clippers think about a possible "New Deal" after the elections.

POPSMy Five Year Old Kid vs. Their Five Year Old War "I do not want to tell my kid when she's ten: this war has been going all of your life. I don't want to tell her that next year! I want to tell her, yes, there was a war for the first five years of your life, but then people had had enough! They knew voting for a fake anti-war candidate wasn't going to end the war, they knew watching TV and bitching about it wasn't going to end the war, and they finally voted with their feet. I want to tell my kid that on the fifth anniversary of the war, people said, ENOUGH! And hit the streets in San Francisco and in over forty other cities around the country, and reinvigorated an anti-war movement that brought the war to an end."

POPS"Messiah" of The Washington Times A long but interesting feature, based on John Gorenfeld's book, "Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times, Seduced the Religious Right, and Built an American Kingdom."

Now you can show web pages on screens at Second Life, something we have been waiting for long. (For those who don't know: Torley Linden is also a fellow clipper, check his stuff here . Excellent job Torley, thanks!)

POPSGenetica: The best free texture tool on the net Spiral Graphics is doing amazing things. Along with the free Genetica Viewer, I strongly recommend their Wood Workshop (also free) and the huge texture packs. If you don't want to download and install these tools, there's one more chance: their web site has a built-in Genetica plugin so you can browse, render and download the textures you selected. Excellent resource.
