POPSDevoured By Sand "They might yet stand tall, surrounded by the enemy, or might have surrendered already, lying down in defeat, waiting to be buried. Buildings, fences, houses of worship – nothing is sacred when it comes to the power of sand; sweeping across landscapes, slowly devouring everything in its path. Let us ponder what once was, and discover astonishing and surprising treasures. Shipwrecks and fishing boats seem obvious, but planes, trains and automobiles? Or a whole village? See for yourself all that has been unearthed."

POPSBirth date can affect personality Those born between September and December are more prone to panic attacks while there is growing evidence that schizophrenia is higher among those born in the late winter and early spring. "It is exactly what you would expect if it were temperature related," said Richard Wiseman, a professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, who has examined the link between luck and the season of birth. "Many of the effects reverse in the two hemispheres." Professor John Eagle, a psychiatrist at Aberdeen University who has studied the relationships between season of birth and mental health, added: "The two main culprits are diet and the seasonal fluctuations in nutrition, and the increase in infections during the winter." Astrologers have seized on the findings as evidence that the stars influence personality. But scientists insist there are biological reasons behind the effects.

POPSTrustworthy vs lustworthy: the psychology of attraction more (at source): But because we are programmed to avoid finding close relatives sexually attractive, this means those we trust are not necessarily the ones we find attractive. Dr DeBruine’s team found that even when looking at members of the opposite sex, subjects found those who looked like them trustworthy — but they did not want to sleep with them. “When the players were judging the faces for physical attractiveness they thought similar faces less attractive,” she said. “So we believe resemblance is trustworthy — but not lustworthy.”

POPSA Sad Tale This is simply a taste of a rather lengthy article that traces the rather sad and frequently misunderstood Antony Flew. Having read a couple of Flew's books I was perplexed by reading recent accounts in various Christian journals of his sudden "conversion". This article sheds light on the unfortunate decline in his mental acuity and the manner in which this was taken advantage of by a group of ID apologists attempting to add a respected scholar to their ranks.

POPSObama Quits His Church That's the entirety of the info right now, but I guess that's all you really need. Seems a little late in the game, but I guess any time is good.

POPSObama's Comments on Quitting Trinity I'm not sure what to add. It doesn't seem to me that, for Obama's campaign, quitting will make any difference one way or another -- anyone who's likely to base their opinion of Obama on his church has already based their opinion of Obama on his church.
