POPSPeople power transforms the web in next online revolution Watching 'I Love Bees' unfold is a bit like being in Detroit in 1905 when Henry Ford was still experimenting with mass production. A new organisational possibility is unfolding before our eyes. Where might We Think culture take us? We are just at the start of exploring how we can be organised without the hierarchy of top-down organisations. There will be many false turns and failures. But there is also huge potential to create new stores of knowledge to the benefit of all, innovate more effectively, strengthen democracy and give more people the opportunity to make the most of their creativity. The motto of the generation growing up with the collaborative logic of the web is not the solitary 'I think, therefore I am', it is be the social 'We think, therefore we are'.

POPSWhy The Loudest are Often the Most Wrong This classic paper by Kruger and Dunning, Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One's Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments , examines the psychological reasons for the unfortunately common correlation between ignorance and confidence. We argue that when people are incompetent in the strategies they adopt to achieve success and satisfaction, they suffer a dual burden: Not only do they reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it. Instead, like Mr. Wheeler, they are left with the mistaken impression that they are doing just fine. As Miller (1993) perceptively observed in the quote that opens this article, and as Charles Darwin (1871) sagely noted over a century ago, "ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge." POPSLondon's Little People Project he Little People Project: it's a guilt-free street art project. Tiny little figures (tiny! Smaller than a dime!) are placed around London. Most of them will never be noticed, but I like to imagine some kid will find some of these someday and be delighted by the surreal magic of the world. --John Brownlee, Wired Blogs: Table of Malcontents Like Amelie finding the little boy's treasure box in her wall-- I'd like to imagine that too.

POPSWhen Life Becomes Scentless The film Perfume portrays the world of a man who has an unparalleled, acute sense of smell. But what is life like for the millions of people who have lost it? The entire article is worth reading, whether you've read the novel or not. (I hope Das Parfum is as good as the novel.)

POPSEmail Etiquette 101 Sending e-mail is almost like picking up the phone and having a conversation nowadays, but how can you be sure you're using it as you intend and without offending anyone? Not so much about not 'offending anyone' but being more considerate to people we are bothering. The web is mostly shared space and we all need to be less annoying.
