POPSA tiny bit of justice for victims of "Dirty War" How horrible for this woman, all the other kidnapped "adoptees", and, of course, their real parents! "After being taken by the authorities, Ms Sampallo lived with her adoptive parents, suspecting nothing, until 2001, when a group formed by grandmothers of the stolen babies, tracked her down and revealed her true identity." "It is believed some 500 children were given to families sympathetic to the military government. Eighty-eight have since been tracked down and those behind this case are hoping the publicity will provoke more questions"

POPSKangaroo Abuser Cites Man's 'Dominion' A reward has been offered if anyone knows anything about Tyson's whereabouts. As for the laws, the defense and the cruelty itself? Where to begin? Zoos in Canada only have regulations for native animals such as bears or coyotes. Keepers have no rules for exotic animals, including lions, tigers or kangaroos. "McElroy was brought to court for her manner with native animals and unfortunately it has nothing to do with Tyson's well-being," she said.

POPSMan arrested for possession of toad Mr. Toad's getting a bum deal here. Why should he be locked up in a police crime lab? It's not his fault that weird (?) people want to lick his venom sacs. Is there really anything in the Col. criminal code that makes this illegal?

POPSPayback is Hell A life of hiding and lies catches up with oldster. Some transgressions are too monstrous to ever forget or forgive. I don't suppose his life in Germany is going to be any easier. And don't weep for his wife. She abetted this criminal for decades.

POPSMoral Majoritists Love Hookers For over three decades, Privette has been one of the best known and most outrageous spokesmen for “family values” and Christian extreme right politics in North Carolina. In the 1970s, he was serving as minister at the North Kannapolis Baptist Church when he joined the tide of evangelicals entering politics that included the Moral Majority and Christian Coalition. He served in the N.C. Legislature from 1984 to 1992, and has been a member of the board of commissioners in Cabarrus County since 1998

POPSStudies show the death penalty has a deterrent effect on crime These studies are under attack because of the conclusions that are easily drawn by the statistics. A normal person would conclude that if one execution of a murderer prevents 18 murders, it is worth it. But I guess we don't support the rights of innocents to live, that was proven with Roe Vs. Wade. And interestingly, the murder rate started to rise after Roe Vs. Wade. Ya think there might be a connection?

POPSBoy Allegedly Buried In Horror Bullying Episode The alleged ringleader's mother told reporters her son was a sweet child and that she had lost faith in the justice system. A sweet boy?? Geeeez!! Her statement is almost as shocking as the incident itself! One can only imagine the immense fear and terror the poor victim must have felt. It's simply shocking and so hard to fathom, that kids so young can do something so heinous and horrific. Poor boy...I hope he'll be okay. :(

POPSInmates’ Words: The Poems of Guantanamo The publication of an anthology of works, composed on paper cups by detainees, provides a harrowing insight into the torments and fading hopes of prisoners. "Aami al Haj, a Sudanese national, was a journalist covering the war in Afghanistan for al-Jazeera television, when, in 2001, he was arrested stripped of his passport and press card and handed over to US forces. He was tortured at both Bagram air base and Kandahar before being transferred to Guantanamo Bay. The US military says he was a financial courier for Chechen rebels and that he assisted al-Qa’ida but has offered no evidence to support the claims. “When I heard pigeons cooing in the trees, Hot tears covered my face,” he wrote from his prison cell. “They have monuments to liberty And freedom of opinion, which is well and good. But I explained to them, that Architecture is not justice."

POPSMedia neglects Indiana hate crime The Bloomington Alternative DID cover this story (http://bloomingtonalternative.com/articles/2007/06/06/8379) ... by there is a reason they are called the "Alternative"

POPSDr blogs own malpractice trial, loses Pediatrician Robert Lindeman started an anonymous blog, "drfleablog", where he talked about pediatrics issues. He was sued for failing to diagnose diabetes in a little boy who eventually died from it. In his blog, he would talk about the malpractice suit and make fun of the plaintiffs and the jury. Since he knew that malpractice cases hinge on what juries think of the doctor's moral character, the revelation that he was the author of the blog meant that his asshole nature would be exposed to the jury and his case would be sunk.

POPSJustice Dept funding "john schools" This discrepancy between punishments for prostitutes and for johns is outrageous. I'd rather have prostitution be legalized, but if we're going to be jailing prostitutes, then johns ought to be given the same sentence--not a slap on the wrist.
