POPSGreenpeace's aggressive tactics not winning Mac user over Apple is the tactical low-hanging fruit in Greenpeace's campaign to reduce toxicity in electronics, such as arsenic and PVC, and to encourage waste recycling. But is it wise to push Mac users, veterans of the PC wars, to pull their wagons into a laager. H/t Mark Lawrence

POPSJapan's Homegrown Operating System METI and Japanese electronics makers are keen to move away from Windows and to nurture a homegrown OS in order to secure a leading position for Japanese firms in the info-appliance market Meanwhile, Microsoft has decided to reveal its source code to government organs and others, providing certain conditions are met. It has also announced that it will make the source code for Windows CE, its OS for info-appliances, freely available and will not object to manufacturers or others altering Windows CE or selling products installed with an adapted version. Some see these moves as a response to the success of Linux and TRON. Having started life as the invention of a university professor, TRON seems to have a bright future in cutting-edge electronics for the twenty-first century.

POPSCrashDoctor - Recommended, but a heads up I've been using this for quite a whlle and it has saved a lot of data that would have been lost without it. FF2.0.0.1 has been constantly crashing and CrashDoctor has been able to recover from most of them. In an effort to get a clue as to what might be causing these, I went to the log folder and was shocked. 570 megs of log files and saved data! Needless to say I cleaned it out. So, if you've been using this for a while you might want to do the same.

POPSBest Web LittleCo of 2006--and Most Promising for 2007 from Read/WriteWeb: "It was a very hard decision this year, for a few reasons. Firstly a number of the frontrunners for Best LittleCo ended up being acquired by the end of the year! This is probably the nature of the beast - if you're a successful Web LittleCo, then you'll attract the attention of BigCo suiters. This is exactly what happened to our 2004 picks, Ludicorp (creator of Flickr) and del.icio.us - both of which were snapped up by Yahoo in 2005. Having said that, 2005 LittleCo winner 37Signals is still independent and doing its own thing." from me: Note how comments reflect the popularity of web apps. And note that comments regarding ClipMarks are creating a good impression--and rightly so!
