About me
Just monkeying my way through life...

Why I use Clipmarks
Clipmarks helps me find and share news, resources and issues that are important to me, in a friendly format that provides ample opportunities to interact with other clippers. The passing parade of diverse subject matter clipped, popped and commented on by an ever-expanding community of weird and wonderful people from all over the world is a study in human nature that never fails to fascinate me.

Other social bookmarking services may provide a few of the features of Clipmarks, but they lack the visual appeal, the dynamics and the esprit de corp that set Clipmarks apart.

A new approach to creating biological models reveals much more about cellular processes than traditional biological models. The research scientists are excited because they will be able to save laboratory time and resources for their best leads as to how biological systems respond to variation. This could be a real boon to cancer research.

Greenpeace's aggressive tactics not winning Mac user over
Wadard
by Wadard  5-9-2007
Apple is the tactical low-hanging fruit in Greenpeace's campaign to reduce toxicity in electronics, such as arsenic and PVC, and to encourage waste recycling. But is it wise to push Mac users, veterans of the PC wars, to pull their wagons into a laager. H/t Mark Lawrence

Japan's Homegrown Operating System
Sorgalim
by Sorgalim  3-17-2007    2
METI and Japanese electronics makers are keen to move away from Windows and to nurture a homegrown OS in order to secure a leading position for Japanese firms in the info-appliance market Meanwhile, Microsoft has decided to reveal its source code to government organs and others, providing certain conditions are met. It has also announced that it will make the source code for Windows CE, its OS for info-appliances, freely available and will not object to manufacturers or others altering Windows CE or selling products installed with an adapted version. Some see these moves as a response to the success of Linux and TRON. Having started life as the invention of a university professor, TRON seems to have a bright future in cutting-edge electronics for the twenty-first century.

gingembre
by gingembre  1-31-2007    2
With the rise of knowledge-based technology industry the Indian economy is growing stronger despite problems with lack of infrastructure. One other big problem is that in order to create enough jobs the manufacturing industry needs to grow as well. Religion and social class have a huge influence in this area. See article for an enlightening discussion of India's growing economy.

CrashDoctor - Recommended, but a heads up
Godfrey Daniel
by Godfrey Daniel  12-23-2006    8
I've been using this for quite a whlle and it has saved a lot of data that would have been lost without it. FF2.0.0.1 has been constantly crashing and CrashDoctor has been able to recover from most of them. In an effort to get a clue as to what might be causing these, I went to the log folder and was shocked. 570 megs of log files and saved data! Needless to say I cleaned it out. So, if you've been using this for a while you might want to do the same.

Best Web LittleCo of 2006--and Most Promising for 2007
gingembre
by gingembre  12-22-2006
from Read/WriteWeb: "It was a very hard decision this year, for a few reasons. Firstly a number of the frontrunners for Best LittleCo ended up being acquired by the end of the year! This is probably the nature of the beast - if you're a successful Web LittleCo, then you'll attract the attention of BigCo suiters. This is exactly what happened to our 2004 picks, Ludicorp (creator of Flickr) and del.icio.us - both of which were snapped up by Yahoo in 2005. Having said that, 2005 LittleCo winner 37Signals is still independent and doing its own thing." from me: Note how comments reflect the popularity of web apps. And note that comments regarding ClipMarks are creating a good impression--and rightly so!
