POPSChina destroys US imports, citing safety standards not met! Obvious retaliation...after all the rejection of Chinese exports in the US recently due to concerns over the safety of Chinese food and health products. We don't accept their poisoned goods, they don't accept our goods. China has also rejected Evian water from France, citing high bacteria levels. Uh huh.

POPSCall for G8 to help stem corruption in Africa: Zambia President Mwanawasa's administration is promoting private sector development for third world countries, but needs help to stop corrupt leaders from stealing the aid and other monies needed for development. This is something that has frustrated me for a long time. So much money has been given to aid African countries, with the goal of delivering food, water, healthcare and education to the people and hopefully help them become self-sufficient, yet time and again corrupt "leaders" steal the money. When I read this news article today I was relieved to learn that ethical leaders in Africa are also frustrated by the corruption, and that they are trying to find ways to thwart it. Hopefully the G8 have the ethics needed to heed the plea and do the right thing.

POPSWatch the anti-smoking ad deemed too controversial This is a harsh film, yes, but definitely gets its point across. Smoking is one of the only "personal liberties' in this country that directly harms the people around you. Which right is more important? The right of the smoker to do what they want to their own body, or the right of the second-hand smoker not to be exposed to that harm. As someone with asthma and allergies, I know where I stand on this one. I don't completely agree with this ad, as I feel that the damage done by abuse is orders of magnitude greater than that done by second-hand smoke, but I do believe that it is a form of abuse nontheless. What's your opinion?

POPSBurger King Adopting Animal Welfare Initiatives! "Burger King executives said the move was driven by their desire to stay ahead of consumer trends and to encourage farmers to move into more humane egg and meat production." “We want to be doing things long before they become a concern for consumers,” Mr. Grover said. “Like a hockey player, we want to be there before the puck gets there.” "While Burger King’s initial goals may be modest, food marketing experts and animal welfare advocates said yesterday that the shift would put pressure on other restaurant and food companies to adopt similar practices." “I think the whole area of social responsibility, social consciousness, is becoming much more important to the consumer,” said Bob Goldin, executive vice president of Technomic, a food industry research and consulting firm. “I think that the industry is going to see that it’s an increasing imperative to get on that bandwagon.” It's a start! :-)

POPSProtecting trademarks big business for C*^ts Go C*^ts! Or is it Dolts? They may claim to not want to dampen enthusiasm, but they have done so—very effectively. Screw the NFL and the Super Bowl and the Colts and all the other sports organizations that so zealously guard their trademarks that they forget who their supporters are (or were)—their fans. When churches and teen organizations can’t even have a party to watch the Not-So-Super Bowl because the NFL fears someone besides it will make a dime, even if that dime just pays for the refreshments or goes to charity, then they have crossed the “delicate line”. They are not being good sports.

POPSChurch viewings of Super Bowl sacked by NFL This is so wrong! It really tarnishes the image of the NFL , and turns it's big event into a Not-So-Super Bowl. We should boycott the Super Bowl in protest of their petty rules. Shame on the NFL!!!

POPSMcDonald's Is Loving It In Asia I didn't realize how huge the fast food market is for Asia until I read this article. "Make that a Big Mac, fries, and a quart of motor oil, please. If executives at McDonald's (MCD) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP), better known as Sinopec, get their way, mainland consumers may be able to fill up their cars and their stomachs in the years ahead thanks to a long-term alliance clinched last year to combine fast-food outlets with gas stations."

POPSFoxy lady who went shopping for shoes But the vixen which wandered into a store in the heart of London did not get much opportunity to browse. Pandemonium broke out as shoppers realised what was tiptoeing between the high heels and boots.

POPSPlacements in India for US business graduates. Its good to see this happen. India can be a great place to work and gain crtical experience when it comes to working in developing countries. India itself has a huge talent in management and is a base of IIM (Indian Institute of Management), a highly acclaimed business school. I am sure its a great opportunity for business graduates in US.

POPSLog on, drop out, cash in... Top techies who left school "Of course, for every dropout's success story there are untold stories of disappointment and failure. Nathan Ensmenger, a University of Pennsylvania history professor who tracks the Silicon Valley labor market, says youngsters often are lured by high starting salaries and low barriers to entry. But not everyone can hit a startup grand slam, leaving many with fewer options as they try to climb the corporate ladder that quickly tops out for techies without a degree. "If we were shooting a movie of this, there would be a disclaimer at the bottom, 'Do not attempt this at home,' " said Paul Graham, a startup investor and founder of Y Combinator. "It's an extreme example of a fundamental, underlying trend: If you can program, you don't have to play by the rules." "We discourage people from starting startups too young. You're not a loser if you finish college first."

POPSOffice Spying Now the Law!! Not a problem if you are self-employed, unless you're a strict "play by the rules" person. Of course, if you ARE self-employed and spending a lot of time on personal matters instead of business, then you probably have more pressing matters to worry about than tracking your electronic mail--say, earning enough $ to live on. Why does the federal gov't now REQUIRE U.S. companies to track employee electronic messages & documents???

POPSWho Killed the Electric car? (whole movie!) I just watched this film and I was outraged. It's so horrible to know that this fully electric car technology has been around for the last 10 years and instead of making it better and law - they quashed it. It's unbelievable to me. Please download and watch this film. Burn it and give it to friends. It's a torrent file - I recomend Azureus as a free torrent program - http://azureus.sourceforge.net/download.php - install this program - then go to this page - http://www.torrentspy.com/torrent/863054/Who_Killed_The_Electric_Car_FS_DVD_SCREENER_LIMITED_XViD_PUKKA#torrent where you'll find the movie - click download - and select open with the azureus program. It will download a pack of 48 "r" files - click on pukka-elec.rar to uncompress them all into one AVI file. I also recommend the vlc player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

POPSWill Western oil giants be shut out soon? Long-time UK government advisor and oil expert Peter Odell forecasts a hostile takeover of a major Western energy company (BP-Amoco, Chevron, or Exxon-Mobil) by Russia's Gazprom or by China's CNOOC, and a subsequent global return to state-owned energy companies. He also foresees a severe near-term decline in the West's leverage over energy resources generally.
