POPSQuilt Exhibit at the Renwick It pays to read blogs, so you can tell people to go and see this exhibit. It is about QUILTS! It is at a real MUSEUM! They have a companion BOOK! Sadly (I guess it is my day for sadness), I won't be heading out that way until the summer. Do give me a review and let me know if you liked it. Perhaps I will put the book on my Christmas list. Hhhmm.

POPSSerotoninrain: what a blog should be I discovered this blog, more or less, when I first discovered blogs. blogging, and the social web in general, about two years ago. It has remained one of my very favorite blogs for reasons I've frankly never quite understood. It's just little daily glimpses into the mind and life of a smart, reflective, and interesting guy. He writes about his job, what he's reading, cooking, his family, and random weirdness that comes over the wires, including -- I'm not sure how he found them -- yours truly's clips. (That's not why I like his blog though.) Anyhow, all you aspiring bloggers, read this guy. This has sort of become the paradigmatic blog for me: short, frequent posts; a wide variety of subjects; fluid, interesting writing; and a very personal and reflective style. Having tried this with a couple abortive blogs, I also have an idea how difficult it is to sustain. Keep it up, Jim, and I'm awfully sorry about Fig.

POPSReligion and other forms of groupthink
To be nobody-but-yourself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting. -- ee cummings "Our Civilization Culture's subcultures are remarkable not for their differences but for their crushing sameness: Like the 'choice' between McDonalds or Burger King, they offer an illusion of freedom to choose. They all tempt you to 'join', to sign up for their 'brand' of Civilization Culture. To stop thinking for yourself and be everybody else. (Ah, but sir, just look, our brand of everybody else suits you so well!) We have thousands of subcultures, many of them at war with each other (in order to keep the members 'bound' together through having a common 'enemy').The prosperity of the Tweedledum subculture depends on its unifying enmity for the Tweedledee subculture, and vice versa." POPS2007 Weblog Awards: Vote by Friday Feb 2nd Deadline More categories and info at the source. Apparently this is a coveted award, since most of the weblogs I checked out mentioned that they had been nominated and encouraged the reader to vote for them. It's very simple to vote; the hard part is choosing which weblog to vote for in each category. :D

POPSIs there a blogging tool like this? Clipper nvizzini mentioned a need for a blogging tool that will allow one blog entry to spider to other blogs instead of having to double-blog, as he puts it. Is there such a blogging tool? I've seen bookmarking tools that let you add a bookmark to multiple sites (Clipmarks conveniently has this feature for the clips we make), but I'm not familiar with a similar blogging tool.

POPSHymn to the Belly The blog this clip comes from is one of my favorites. The author is a very astute observer of nature and a talented writer whose words on food, and everything else, are a sensual delight to read. I subscribed to her blog immediately after discovering it many months ago. If you appreciate good writing, and good food, don't miss Syllabub: Words on Food.
