About me
Just monkeying my way through life...

Why I use Clipmarks
Clipmarks helps me find and share news, resources and issues that are important to me, in a friendly format that provides ample opportunities to interact with other clippers. The passing parade of diverse subject matter clipped, popped and commented on by an ever-expanding community of weird and wonderful people from all over the world is a study in human nature that never fails to fascinate me.

Other social bookmarking services may provide a few of the features of Clipmarks, but they lack the visual appeal, the dynamics and the esprit de corp that set Clipmarks apart.

Polar bear quota for hunters not reduced in Nunavut
gingembre
by gingembre  11-5-2008    1
Greed and denial on the part of the Inuit in Nunavut continue to subject far too many polar bears to hunters with a lust to kill.

'Fish in the forest'
gingembre
by gingembre  9-19-2008
"Would you take a fish and put him in the forest?" It sounds ridiculous. Who would do that? But as we grow ever more convinced of the changes that are taking place in PNG's coastal communities, our question is going to have to be, "how will we take a fish and help him thrive in the forest?"

Why Are Pygmies Short?
wildcat
by wildcat  12-22-2007    2
Because of their short life expectancies, the researchers speculate that pygmies have had to shift their reproductive years forward. The average life expectancy at birth for different pygmy populations ranges from just 16 years to 24 years. Very few pygmy women reach the end of their reproductive period, as only a small percentage survive past age 40.

The Selling Out of Canada's Polar Bears
gingembre
by gingembre  10-31-2007
Now even the Nunavut people who offer up already beleaguered polar bears to "sport" hunters for the money are finally admitting that their polar bear population is declining...but they still won't agree that climate change is the cause of the decline. I suppose that it really is an inconvenient truth that they would rather not acknowledge. But rather than stop the hunting they are just reducing the quota of bears to be slaughtered. They are lobbying the US government to try to keep the polar bear off the endangered species list for economic reasons. So much for the myth of the noble savage!
