POPSMy Beautiful Blue Indiana! I am so pleased that the majority of voters in my home state of Indiana chose Obama over McCain! It has been an exciting election for us Hoosiers, who normally get little attention due to the assumption that Indiana is a dyed-in-the-wool red state. Well, not any more! Woo hoo! I was one of the Hoosiers who cast an absentee ballot this year. :)

POPSAnd the worst taste in a campaign mailer award goes to... Here's the rest of the story: Local party officials immediately climbed out of the muck to repudiate the piece and apologize, right? Not exactly. In a news release, the party disavowed the Hitler comparison but acknowledged that it had sent the piece out, in its entirety, because it was interesting and "might incite conversation." However, the release went on, "This sort of inflammatory language is neither condoned nor encouraged by our party." Except, that is, when this sort of inflammatory language is, in fact, condoned, encouraged and even distributed by the party. And they're calling him dishonest.

POPSMcCain Fails to Understand, Sneeringly Misrepresents Sky Theater As "Overhead Projector" Andrey Kravtsov continues: "I find it appalling that Sen. McCain would call a science education tool for public (largely children) for a historic planetarium with millions of visitors a year a wasteful earmark. The planetarium's focus, as stated on their website (http://adlerplanetarium.org) is "on inspiring young people, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in science." Is an investment in such public facility at the time when US competitiveness in math and sciences is a constant source of alarm a waste?" No, it is not a waste. Senator McCain's failure to understand and/or appreciate the importance of science education is indeed appalling, as is his sneering, sniveling misrepresentation of this equipment as an unnecessary, overpriced "overhead projector".

POPSPride and Progress: How Far America Has Come In The Last 40 Years food for thought from Jonah Lehrer a bit more: "Over time, these conscious limits on language helped re-engineer our unconscious beliefs, allowing people to slowly purge themselves of obsolete stereotypes. (We tend to think of the unconscious as the domineering elephant of the mind, but sometimes the feeble rider manages to steer the beast in the right direction.) Of course, the unconscious remains a murky and biased place, but I think white Americans have shown that it can be amended, that simply altering the ways in which we refer to people can, over time, change what we secretly think of people."

POPSToo Bad Canadians Can't Vote in the U.S. It seems that if Canadians had the opportunity to vote in the United States, there would be no need for the Republicans to waste their money on running a candidate in the upcoming presidential election. The Democrats would have a landslide victory no matter which Democrat wins the nomination. As an American living in Canada, I vote in every election via absentee ballot. Maybe I could send for a whole slew of them. Nah! That's too much like what a Republican would try to get away with. :-)

POPSRomney's: 5 Strapping Sons - None in Iraq! Hypocrisy More: Of more interest to his combat readiness, David was arrested in April of 2007 for trying to board a plane in Little Rock with a loaded Glock pistol in his carry on bag. So we know that the boy can shoot. Why isn't he on the front lines of the war his father so ardently supports in the name of Christ? (By the way, the reaction of Dad Huckabee to David's gun arrest is notable. "It's one of those stupid things," Mike Huckabee said. "He knows better." Ah, yes, nothing like a forgiving preacher. Do you feel safer now knowing that a gun toting animal abuser's father might be president? Clear the squirrels from the White House lawn now.) Huckabee says the war in Iraq is part of a "World War III' against Islamic fascism

POPSWhite Fright I wonder how the right wing will be able to keep their attitudes about women and minorities under control. They are not fans of political correctness. My hope is that when the racist and sexist attacks come, the American public will rise up in outrage, leading to real discussions about race and gender in this country.

POPSDennis Kucinich for President On New Year’s Eve, Kucinich held the “Resolution for Peace” in New Hampshire. A party and concert began at 9 p.m in Manchester and was open to the public. It was televised on the community access channel in the area. Kucinich spent time talking about the upcoming year and also focused on the plight of the area’s homeless and how he can identify with what they are going through based on his past experiences in his childhood. He can win, if you vote for him.

POPSBarack Obama hits the nail on the head I just don't see how anyone can disagree with this sentiment from Obama. His vision for a new way of dealing with issues and people - and his apparent ability to carry it out - is truly inspiring!! I feel like he is the right medicine for the Bush Flu this country has caught.

POPSObama's wife says this is his one and only shot I'm not exactly sure why, but this really bothers me. I am definitely considering voting for Obama, but when it comes to running for president, i honestly think you need someone who isn't going to be told by their spouse whether they can run or not. You need someone so determined to get the job done...and a spouse who encourages them do do so. I don't hold this against them at all personally, but i don't know that he should be president of the United States if his wife has this kind of pull.

POPSWant to be President? Kill some birds. Who cares!?!? We're electing someone to be President of the United States. Someone who will be empowered with massive authority who will make decisions that impact the lives of everyone. The fact that they can shoot birds is just entirely irrelevant to me. Scratch that...the fact that they enjoy shooting birds makes me think they definitely should not be president. And i really despise Huckabee referring to killing birds as "knowing the culture of being outdoors." For me, being outdoors consists of activities such as having a catch, lying on the beach, skiing, walking in the park and a lot of other things that don't result in the death of any living being.

POPSHuckabee: cover up for son's cruel deed reflects dad's ethics Mike Huckabee allegedly covered up for his son David's cruelty to a dog. Do we want a person with Huckabee's lack of ethics in the White House? A bit more from the article (but please read even more at the source): "David Huckabee did not respond to requests for comment. (In April of this year, he was arrested—and paid a fine—when he forgot to remove a loaded gun from his carry-on luggage at Little Rock airport.) His father told NEWSWEEK THAT his son did not engage in "intentional torture." "There was a dog that apparently had mange and was absolutely, I guess, emaciated."A campaign official says David "regrets" the incident and notes that he later made Eagle Scout. Congrats on attaining Eagle Scout rank, David.
