POPSAnother New Haven police officer arrested More from Connecticut's culture of corruption. Note the looks on the faces of Chief Ortiz and Mayor Destefano in the bottom picture. I suspect that there are still more arrests coming.

POPSCorrupt Cop Sentenced to Jail More from Connecticut's culture of corruption. It is interesting to hear about all the support other cops gave him. The police in this town are absolutely untrustworthy and corrupt.

POPSNew Haven dangerous for Delivery Drivers When I first moved out here I found it annoying that delivery drivers would not ring my doorbell but would instead call on their cell phones and have me come out. I didn't realize they had good reason for this.

POPSLying criminal cop "always a good police officer" according to union More on Silva and COnnecticut's culture of corruption. I like the juxtaposition between "Silva pleaded guilty Oct. 5 to lying in a police report that led to the wrongful arrest of a city man on drug charges." and "He was always a good police officer, good detective." ONe of these two statements is false. You don't wrongfully arrest people and still get to be a "good police officer."

POPSTwo Republicans - Two Misdemeanors - Two Different Outcomes This editorial makes an interesting point. I think another interesting comparison is between Craig, who is most likely gay and was most likely trying to find a willing sex partner, and David Vitter, another family values conservative who apparently hired prostitutes in Louisiana and DC and who was not pressured to resign.

POPSHigher rate of gun ownership does not mean higher violent crime rate Some more: "The reason that gun ownership doesn't correlate with murder rates, the authors show, is that violent crime rates are determined instead by underlying cultural factors. "Ordinary people," they note, "simply do not murder." Rather, "the murderers are a small minority of extreme antisocial aberrants who manage to obtain guns whatever the level of gun ownership" in their society."

POPSHome invasion suspects Overburdened criminal justice system seems to have failed here. This is not an isolated incident, though. The system is failing constantly.
