POPSSave Hotel Penn Hotel Pennsylvania being threatened with demolition. Home to several conventions and much history (including the oldest phone number still in use!), many people are trying to persuade the city to grant it landmark status. (from the forum, http://talk.hope.net) "The hotel was designed by the prominent architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White, which also completed landmark properties such as the Waldorf Astoria, the original Pennsylvania Railroad Station, Pierpont Morgan Library, Columbia University and the United States Post Office Building on Eighth Ave. " "New York's Hotel Pennsylvania has kept the same telephone number since 1919, which was immortalized in the 1938 Glenn Miller hit "Pennsylvania 6-5000", and is the oldest phone number still in use today." The Waldorf Astoria has already been granted the landmark status. Will Hotel Penn be given the same chance?

POPSShepard Bill Closer to Being a Law There's a way to show support for the bill, by mailing your Senators here: http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/fighthate_video The Shrub's (Bush administration) advisors have advised he veto it. They've said that we don't want to catagorize any crime, yet the original bill is categorized. And Gay/Lesbian/Transgendered people aren't covered by it.

POPSNY Teen Sues the Record Industry "After the case started to get messy, particularly when it became clear that Patti didn't know how to turn a computer on, let alone file share, the music lawyers dropped its case against her." And apparently decided to target her son instead... When will the RIAA learn that the more they make something "illegal" and the more difficult they make playing and obtaining music (via DRM), the more people will turn towards piracy?

POPSAnd the winner of the console wars is... Interesting, though the PS2 has been around a whole lot longer. I don't think the numbers were counted from the first year the PS2 shipped, but rather it's grand total... Having played a bit of both the Wii and the PS2, I think I prefer the "sit-down" console, just due to my being prone to breaking things, and coordination "issues"... (There was a reason I ran track when I was forced to pick a sport... ;))

POPSThe Tale of Meep I was in one of my e-mail accounts (looking for an e-mail address), and found this, sent originally by EricSkiff about a year and a half ago. I just thought this was the most awesome thing ever then, and still do now! lol.

POPSAsthma meds a steroid violation to NFL If nothing else, it only *levels* the playing field for him, as opposed to giving him an "unfair advantage"! Couldn't that be spun as "discrimination due to illness" by lawyers?

POPSMagical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v1.51 It finds the CD key that was used in your computer, in case you've forgotten it. There's also some other programs available for download - like a SHN converter, and some IRC addons. Not open source, but free...

POPSHow To Open an MS Works Document in MS Word This site came to my rescue this morning after someone at work had done a document at home on her word-processor of choice (MS Works) and was trying to open it here in the office. (We only have MS Word and Corel WordPerfect... Yes, I did say WordPerfect...)

POPSGarbageScout.com A map where you can e-mail the location of some-one's trash, that could be your next treasure. Anything from an Ethernet hub in NYC, to a toilet in Brooklyn, broken glasses, and sometimes just plain raw materials.

POPSThe Hug Shirt Well, the shirt itself looks like it was created by Cingular (whether it had anything to do with it or not, I'm not sure), but since it's tight-fitting, it seems like it could be worn underneath your "real" clothes. :)
