About me
Born a bird with no sense of magnetic direction. Know where North and South tend to be, but not quite which way is the correct. So I go west. Or East. Or I just don't move.
Why I use Clipmarks
Nice way to centralize your cyber-predilections without having to re-scour the internet in search of things you've already seen and been interested in.

What does it all mean? It means that we are getting closer to our purpose in life, with all of the refinements that we need to perfect in our character and morals, and that technology is one way to give us the time needed to look inside of ourselves. And to look outside of ourselves to see the greatness of G-d who is Orchestrating it all for us...

"Imagining the tenth dimension"

This is a video by the author of the book with the same title - Rob Bryanton - about all the dimensions from 1st to 9th, and about what it would be like to imagine a 10th dimension. I loved the movie and I'm really looking forward to buying the book (if I manage to find it for sale here in Portugal). Has anyone read it yet? Leave me your opinions! :)

The Multiverse
Kelika

"As for Linde, he is especially interested in the mystery of consciousness and has speculated that consciousness may be a fundamental component of the universe, much like space and time. He wonders whether the physical universe, its laws, and conscious observers might form an integrated whole. A complete description of reality, he says, could require all three of those components, which he posits emerged simultaneously. “Without someone observing the universe,” he says, “the universe is actually dead.”"

Sharism: A Mind Revolution
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  11-20-2008    3
However, daily decisions for most adults are quite low in creative productivity, if only because they've switched off their sharing paths. People generally like to share what they create, but in a culture that tells them to be protective of their ideas, people start to believe in the danger of sharing. Then Sharism will be degraded in their mind and not encouraged in their society. But if we can encourage someone to share, her sharing paths will stay open. Sharism will be kept in her mind as a memory and an instinct. If in the future she faces a creative choice, her choice will be, "Share."

Science's Alternative to an Intelligent Creator: the Multiverse Theory
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  11-20-2008    1
The idea that the universe was made just for us—known as the anthropic principle—debuted in 1973 when Brandon Carter, then a physicist at Cambridge University, spoke at a conference in Poland honoring Copernicus, the 16th-century astronomer who said that the sun, not Earth, was the hub of the universe. Carter proposed that a purely random assortment of laws would have left the universe dead and dark, and that life limits the values that physical constants can have. By placing life in the cosmic spotlight—at a meeting dedicated to Copernicus, no less—Carter was flying in the face of a scientific worldview that began nearly 500 years ago when the Polish astronomer dislodged Earth and humanity from center stage in the grand scheme of things. Carter proposed two interpretations of the anthropic principle. The “weak” anthropic principle simply says that we are living in a special time and place in the universe where life is possible. Life couldn’t have survived in the very early universe

Never Say Die: Why We Can't Imagine Death
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  10-19-2008    4
The common view of death as a great mystery usually is brushed aside as an emotionally fueled desire to believe that death isn’t the end of the road. And indeed, a prominent school of research in social psychology called terror management theory contends that afterlife beliefs, as well as less obvious beliefs, behaviors and attitudes, exist to assuage what would otherwise be crippling anxiety about the ego’s inexistence. Yet a small number of researchers, including me, are increasingly arguing that the evolution of self-consciousness has posed a different kind of problem altogether. This position holds that our ancestors suffered the unshakable illusion that their minds were immortal, and it’s this hiccup of gross irrationality that we have unmistakably inherited from them. Individual human beings, by virtue of their evolved cognitive architecture, had trouble conceptualizing their own psychological inexistence from the start.
