POPSNo Child Left Behind Law Examined NCLB needs to be completely re-tooled/scrapped. This law is taking resources away from accelerated programs. It's the top 20% that will be doing 80% of the innovating. Sometimes, there are neglected kids that need an extra hand. This should be on a case by case basis, not country wide. There is something to be said for motivation. If a child is driven to do well in school, to improve their situation, they will perform at a higher level anyway. Anyway, I am rambling. The law had 'good' intention, but it had horrible implementation from the first day of drafting.

POPSNurse Shortage Threatens Care The article doesn't even mention nurse turnover in hospitals and nursing homes. I think this is the MAIN reason for nurse shortages. Healthcare needs to be scrapped from its current form and rebuilt from scratch.

POPSAll Work and No Play Makes Jack... a dull boy. Yet another example of government thinking they know best by instituting requirements. Any good parent knows that kids need time to unwind...just like the 'big' kids.

POPSMortgage Bailout Isn't Working! People couldn't handle paying ballooning mortgages when they HAD a job. Even haggling over the minutiae, people can't pay a mortgage when they do not have a job to support it.

POPS150+ Whales Die Isn't it strange how this happens shortly after the lawsuit against Navy sonar gets thrown out of the Supreme Court? No, there is absolutely no correlation between whales beaching themselves and the Navy's new sonar system...Poppycock!

POPSMaking an example of CitiGroup Most people who lose their jobs get shown the door, period. They normally do not get a fat paycheck to go with them. Accountability for bad decisions is just plain logical. If I mess up at a task at work, I get reprimanded. If I forget to include the cover sheet for the TPS reports, I should get called on it...once. If I burn down the building during lunch, I should be fired plus all the extras. Basically, the punishment should fit the 'crime'.

POPSUrban Myths about Viruses... What?!? Doesn't anyone read scientific journals/reporting any more. Viruses wrap up in fats to ride out cold weather outside or at high altitude. They catch a ride on a water molecule (whether water or ice). They end up on your coat, head, hands, mouth, eyes, etc. Once the temperature increases, they 'thaw' out and become 'active'. Learn more by looking at my clip about how the flu can make you fat. Enjoy! Certainly, trading viruses with your friends, family, and colleagues is common. Additionally, you are more likely to catch what other people have if you breathing the same air. However, most viral infections start as an invasion from outside the body.

POPSISPs Neglect Infrastructure: Think of Capping Downloads Articles, like this one, do not take into consideration the growing trend of multiple internet ports per home. For example, a home could have a parent on one computer downloading news videos, a child on another computer downloading Netflix or MP3s, and a third child could be on a PS3/Xbox playing online. This type of house could easily surpass the monthly limits. Additionally, bandwidth needs typically doubles every year, so one house may only need 10 GB per month now. However, next year they will likely need 20GB per month. How are placing caps going to provide ISPs with incentive to increase their infrastructure? It will not!

POPSThis is your brain... on alpha-CaMKII Now if only I could gain someone's memory, I too can be a board certified M.D. ~.^ This technique appears to mask memories rather than erase them though. What was I going to say? Oh yes, the article makes it seem more like the mice had a lapse in memory rather than memory loss.

POPSCall Me... Hilarious and impractical. If nothing else, this gadget would be great for that special someone who talks incessantly.

POPSDubai: Boom and Busted One of the two was in Dubai to set up a business enterprise in the booming city. He was, obviously, unaware of the conservative Muslim influence. Suffice it to say, I have no plans to go get arrested in Dubai.
