Snakes swallowing kangaroos and donation overload
egsnyder
by egsnyder  5-21-2009    2
What's the connection? Seems that a snake CAN swallow a kangaroo. But it may take weeks to digest. But Value Village CANNOT "digest" overflow donations, the aftermath of unsold "stuff" from weekend garage/yard sales! Consequently, lots and lots of perfectly good, reusable stuff ends up in the dumpster and the landfills. Any thoughts on avoiding this queueing, peak period problem?

March 19: St Joseph's Day (Christian)
egsnyder
by egsnyder  3-19-2009
...celebrated throughout most of Italy and by the Italian communities in North America. He was the foster father of Jesus and is the universal patron of the Catholic Church. According to legend, when a severe drought struck western Sicily in the Middle Ages, the people of that area prayed to St. Joseph asking him to intercede for them and send rain. Their prayer was granted and since then they honor St. Joseph by helping the needy in their community.

Composting dog waste
egsnyder
by egsnyder  3-18-2009
Backyard solution to your dog waste woes? Mike Levenston at City Farmer, a demonstration garden and compost site run by Canada's Office of Urban Agriculture in Vancouver, B.C. lives in the city and has a dog. The solution, says Mike, is to compost dog waste in yard, using a old plastic garbage can. The folks at City Farmer developed the method, which is one of the most popular tips on the cityfarmer.org web site. The technique provides "a chance where people can have it slowly decompose in a yard and be environmentally safe."
