POPSSocial media to the rescue in Iraq Here's the basic message....'Look, back in the U.S. we're going through a horrible financial crisis, yet the people are happy as a pig in shit on twitter. You should see them..they're just tweeting and twirping their way through this here banking crisis. You just need to set up some social media sites and your people will be tweeting, watching silly YouTube videos and text messaging their way to happiness like nothing's wrong." Ok, i kid. Hopefully the creative minds that have headed over there can enable the Iraqi people to leverage the internet to connect with all sorts of information, ideas and efficiencies that help them move forward.

POPSHow about a Blackwater IPO? Um, when did we the U.S.begin outsourcing its military needs? I guess you don't need a draft when you can hire an army. Seems like you don't really need to have accountability either. Maybe there should be a Blackwater IPO on Wall Street. Then we could really show off the benefits of war and capitalism.

POPSWild-Eyed Bush Thumping Chest: "I Am the President" The comments about the other ranting in the article: ome big money players up from Texas recently paid a visit to their friend in the White House. The story goes that they got out exactly one question, and the rest of the meeting consisted of The President in an extended whine, a rant, actually, about no one understands him, the critics are all messed up, if only people would see what he’s doing things would be OK…etc., etc. This is called a “bunker mentality” and it’s not attractive when a friend does it. When the friend is the President of the United States, it can be downright dangerous. Apparently the Texas friends were suitably appalled, hence the story now in circulation.

POPSCheney takes denial to a whole new level Wow...it is so scary to get a glimpse into how little the Bush administration is in touch with reality...and also the extent to which they do not care about rules or what anyone else thinks.

POPSAn ugly day in Iraq I sure hope that sending more troops to Iraq improves this situation. Just doesn't seem like any progress is being made...yet many are dying along the way.

POPSWhile we're bitching about Kerry, Iraq falls apart You can bitch and moan about Kerry all you want. But he's not the one who got us into this mess. He's also not the one who just got told by Iraq's Prime Minister to lift a blockade despite the fact that it would result in leaving an American soldier behind and enable Sadr to run wild.

POPSIraqi prime minister takes a slap at Bush This must be more of that negative propaganda coming out of iraq. We're totally winning this war. It's obvious. No, really, it's true. This is just the media portraying things in a bad light. I promise you, Bush will explain it all later today.

POPS"Big Talk, Little Will" - Thomas Friedman (NY Times) August 16, 2006. Friedman asking the right questions again. Here we are in the biggest struggle of our lives and we are funding both sides — the U.S. military with our tax dollars and the radical Islamists and the governments and charities that support them with our gasoline purchases

POPSAnti-War protest in NYC What i am most afraid of is that horrible communication and terrible execution by Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc. have now put us in a position where we can't make the necessary moves we need to against countries like Iran. This just might go down as a classis example of "careful what you wish for, you just might get it." Bush wanted his war with Hussein. He got it. Now we're paying for it...and i suspect we will be for a very long time.

POPSA question about Saddam's trial... What is the point of this trial? Once you invade a country and capture its leader, doesn't a trial seem a little after-the fact? What would happen if he's found innocent? Just want to make it very clear that this question has nothing to do with my opinion of the war in iraq or saddam (i hope he fries). i just honestly want to understand the point of a trial at this point.
